Gunsmithing Issue with AICS chassis to action fit

Hello to all. Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently bought an AICS 1.5 short action stock (chassis system) so that I could drop my 1972 vintage .243 Varmint Special into a tactical type stock with magazine capabilities. This is the latest edition AISC that recently became available. The action dropped into the aluminum chassis easily. However, I noticed that I have about an 1/8" to 3/16" gap under the rear tang. I have checked that nothing in the trigger group (factory trigger) is hanging up. It appears that the tang of the action is too wide to fit between the machined "V" in the chassis and this is preventing the tang of the action from reaching the chassis. This doesn't seem right to me. Has anyone else had this issue or is this the way these are made to fit? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks for the quick replies. No. The action is not sitting on the skins. I removed the skins in order to install the action. Everthing on the chassis appears to fit well except the gap under the action tang. The magazine works well, not too tight and not too loose. If the gap is designed to be there, the rear action screw is short by about the amount of gap there is under the tang.

I would suggest getting another action screw for the rear and take it out and shoot it. I believe AI calls for 53 in/lbs on torque for the action screws. Some guys bed the rear tang also. Mine doesn't have bedding and seem to shoot fine.

btw after you torque it into the chassis check to see if your safety works ect.

Thanks All. Put the action back into the AICS and torqued both action screws to 53 inch/pounds per the instructions. No issues with trigger, safety or mag feeding. However, even though the gap is cosmetic, it still bugs me.

have a picture of it? if you needed a longer screw i suspect something isn't right.

After I put the action back in the chassis and got the action torqued down, there is still a gap but only a small one. The rear action screw now is only about 1-2 threads short. I've seen actions in factory stocks look like this, so I guess it's all good.
