I am currently looking at purchasing firearms insurance, to cover my firearms from theft, fire, etc. My current renters insurance is not an option to do this, so I'm looking at external insurance policies to cover the firearms.

I've stumbled across these firearm insurance companies online, but really have no idea who is good or bad:

I realize that there's also insurance through the NRA, though through what reading I've done I've heard that there is better/cheaper options out there. I'm also not currently an NRA member, but I would consider joining.

Right now all I have is a kitted out KAC SR-15 Mod 1 and a Sig Sauer P226 Enhanced Elite w/surefire x300, but have a Tac-Ops X-ray 51 on the way (already have the scope, rings, bipod, etc. for the rifle). This will put the total around $14k of firearms, most of that being in the Tac-Ops and its components, though the KAC and its components is not cheap either.

I work offshore right now(3 weeks on/3 weeks off), and will be rotating international come the fall (4 weeks on/4 weeks off) which is why I think insurance is prudent. I don't like the idea of no one being around my house and firearms for 3 (or 4!) weeks at a time, and having insurance will give me something to go back on in case I'm targeted for theft.

I'm also in the market for a good safe, but that is beyond this thread. I'm still at the start of my research for a good insurance policy, and I'm all ears for personal experience on this subject. Thanks for your help!

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on what I should specifically look for when it comes to a policy, please let me know. This is my first time acquiring insurance for something other than a house or a vehicle.

I've got armscare through the NRA and have for years. Never had to use it yet thank god. If I remember correctly it's 100 per claim not per firearm stolen or damaged. Firearms over 2500 need a description on make and model or what's been done to it. No serial numbers or pix needed.

I just got a floater from my homeowners (Farmers) written up, reason being they said my max coverage was $9500, and that wont even cover my most expensive gun, let alone the rest. so I went for the max ($9500) and then the floater is specifically for my DTA. It covers it in most cases, loss, theft, left it on the tailgate, ect. Only cost's me like 83$ more a year, gives me peace of mind.

I have 2.5k per gun. The really high value one's like the GAP/AI, and the M14, have already been looked at by 'parts, as in stock, scope, barreled action which my rep said is fine after I had her check to see if that was correct.
If the GAP/AI is stolen, burned, etc, it will be replaced as separate components of scope, rings, barreled action and stock with each part coming to less than the 2.5k top out. Same principal applies for the rifle in the vehicle too. Until they change my policy language, it stays that way. Yes, I pay a little more per year too, but it is so worth it!

Historic Firearms though Eastern is the best deal that I found. $125 covered $35k in firearms and you didn't have to provide collection details if no single item was valued at over $10k.

Good idea, I sent them an email inquiring about coverage. I figured it would be a wise idea since I have a good amount of money invested in my firearms.

Some of the best firearms insurace you have is not posting where you live, how long you are gone for, what you have in your house, and that you don't have a safe on a public forum. I can assure you that it would not be very hard for me to locate a K Thomas in Houston, Tx. with public records. Maybe start your search by editting this post so you don't need to use that insurance once you get it. Just my observation after reading your original post.
