Made my 3000th skydive this weekend!

3000 jumps
6 malfunctions
1 cracked vertibrae
1 serious ankle sprain

Not a bad run so far!

Congradulations, that's a pretty good number.
One of these days I want to take it up (after I get more in shape / loose weight etc Ha!)
Where do you jump at?

I'll have to PM you when I am interested in going there, it's always nice to know someone with tons of experiance.

Congrats, lucky bastard. Wish I had the time to keep up with a license. Tell us more about your malfunctions.

Congrats dude, those are some great numbers considering the amount of time you spend up there.

Awesome accomplishment!

I have exactly five, and to get six I'd have to lose a fight and get pushed out lol. It did motivate me to be a better pilot!

Good luck on your next 3000.

Tell us more about your malfunctions.

First one was a packing error on my part on jump 29. Resulted in a moderately quick spiral that I didnt recognize in time to correct. Pretty high pucker factor considering my experience.

Second was an unknown cause of a slow spin on jump 98. Unable to correct it so I chopped it.

Third was a lineover. Definately a packing error. One of the suspension lines goes over the top and turns the chute into a bowtie. No recovery on that one.

Forth was unrecoverable linetwists. Couldnt kick out of them in time to land so I chopped it.

Fifth was my only mal on a tanden jump (so far). Tension knot in the lines rendering the chute unsteerable. My passenger never knew it until i pointed it out to her.

Sixth one was a few months ago. Line twists with a hard spin. I got great video of it with a chest mounted GoPro.

Good times!

If you listen real close, when the canopy reverses itself you can hear me say...'MutherFu%$er!'

Well hopefully God doesn't switch the UBB life forum to a vB life forum or you might only have 1000 jumps and have to do the other 2000 back over again. Sorry had to make that joke with all the bitching about post counts going on.

I have never done a free fall. I was terrified of heights and thought that going Airborne when I joined the Army would help me get over it. 30 jumps later and I realized its not heights I don't like, its jumping from things that are high. Paying to do it is not on the list of things I want to spend money on. Its an only if I have to thing for me.

Congrats on getting to that number bro, I hope you make another 3000 safely.

I still don´t get it why anyone would want to jump from a perfectly good aircraft. That video shows some great reaction skills and bloody cool mindset, though, hats off to you!

Congratulations on your 3000...
I quit logging dives after getting my D license then stopped when I started having kids ... eight years lurking the airport.

Congrats man, that's pretty awesome. I may have to hit you up sometime, I've always wanted to try it but I'm afraid my wife and mom would conspire to keep me grounded if they knew I was headed that way.

I must pack better than John. 837 jumps, I have yet to cut away!! only one super retarded hard opening that dam near put my nuts in my chest.

Congrats John!!

It didn't look like too hard of an opening, George.

Congrats on the 3K! I was just over 2K when I hung it up about 7yrs ago....still think I might get back on that horse again though. I feel like an underachiever with only 2 malfunctions to my credit...but both were on the same day! Lineover for breakfast and AAD misfire (fxc astra)for dinner...spent a couple hours of lunch finding my cutaway handle since there weren't any in the loft. Here's to the next 3K for ya!

bit late but congrats on the achievement, I still cant picture hitting 1000 as a late starter, going to have to spend alot more time on it instead of working, my CI just completed is 30000th

CJ,
Congrats. I am just over 1400 but haven't jumped in over 14 yrs. I went the military route(Canada). After doing MFP, fortunate to spend 5 yrs with Cdn Forces Parachute Team. Spent 5 winters trg in Perris, CA. Learned a ton there from some very experienced and well known jumpers.Jumped at several airshows and events in the US having the opportunity to jump with the Knights, Leap Frogs, Red Devils (UK), Flying Dragons (UK) and a few lesser known teams. I have had only one malfunction and that was a wrap while doing CRW. For those who say why jump out of a perfectly good airrcaft. April 22 1992 we were trg at Perris and went up on the first lift practicing RW. The Twin Otter went up on the second lift and went in 90 ft off the deck and 16 out of 22 died.(RIP to those perished, lost a lot of good friends that day) We were supposed to be on that lift but wanted more time to debrief our first jump because we didn't like the way it went. Our whole team would have been toast if we went up on the second lift. No plane is perfect. CJ again congrats, we may have jumped with some of the same guys. Its a small world.

Congrats CJ, need to come up that way and get in the Dallas air sometime.

My first mal was using 82nd Airborne Freefall Club gear doing my first hop-n-pop after static line progression in the early 80s......rigger didn't tack the pilot chute bridal where it tied onto the canopy apex (paracommander). Arch, look, reach, pull, check.......just saw my pilot chute deploy with nothing attached. May be the only time in skydiving where the rigger bought ME a bottle of Jack.

Haaaaa!

For those not 'in the know', its customary to buy your rigger (the packer of your reserve chute) a bottle if he saves your worthless a$$ when you have a malfunction.
