Went out on my cycle Sunday afternoon and it started a very light drizzle . Figured no problem keep riding. Pull into a county park and just pass thru . So at the exit I'm turning left up a steep hill . Cross the near lane , start turning , slight lean . When I crossed the center of the far lane rear tire slid . Fucking bike starts the wobble a runs me into a guard rail . When I hit the rail it leaned on the rail pushing me on an angle over . Hit about 10 supports on the backside with my right arm . Slid with the bike down the rail .
Lost a boot and got roads rash on my foot .
From the bottom of my right thumbnail to the tip is gone .
    Broke my ulna and radius.
Bike ain't bad so I'm told. She's got crash bars so hoping that helped . Thinking they saved my right leg .
Go into surgery Wednesday for the forearm .

    Damn. Sorry to hear dude.

Many years ago I was riding a Harley (1978 Low Rider... AMF bike, yuck) and making a left hand turn at a very busy intersection when the crankcase decides it has had enough and disgorges its contents on the rear tire. That was harrowing. I wasn't going fast and managed to save it. Didn't save my underware though. Got rid of that bike the next week.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

GRIPPY SOCKS!! YOU GOT GRIPPY SOCKS!

    GRIPPY SOCK GANG, MOUNT UP!

That sucks........been down on the pavement more than once............some day I will tell the story of the heart attack while riding my Harley................

Heal up, get the bike fixed/replaced and get back on the road.............one day you will be too old to play the "dodging traffic" game and it will all be just a memory ..............

I have made it to that point........

Curious, what tires are you running? Im real picky about mine for wet roads. I like dunlop american elite or michelin commanders.
I'm guessing, by description, this was an adventure bike.
I run Anakee Adventures if I'll be mainly road and they have excellent grip wet/cold wet conditions.

BTW- Get fixed up and get back on that horse.

Holy shit bro, your guardian angels were definitely with you that day. PRAYERS for a speedy recovery.

First hour of light/moderate rain is hell for any type of heavy duty driving due to the built up grease and oil and other stuff on the road surfacing and forming a slippery slick until it is finally rinsed off if the rain continues. You can be as safe as possible in your path and lane but you also have to watch out for others who might lose control and veer towards you. Stay safe out there and sharp as a razor at all times.

Glad you are on the mend… bikes and rain just don’t mix. Not just the bad roads but drivers can’t see you and won’t look for you.

Cut my cross country trip short a week ago after 2600 miles, all but 200 or so in rain. No amount of rain gear keeps out that much water and it was just getting unsafe. Not to mention a couple of rounds of hypothermia.

I’ll finish the trip in the fall…. Bike safely stashed in Colorado.

    Get better and keep riding!!!

Oh believe me, I know lol. I was Fall Risk, had the weight sensor on the bed, 100% assist for quite some time.

I kept the socks 😁 Even got a darling nurse to send me home (eventually) with a couple packages!

I tell my customers that there are two things that will cause your own demise riding: inexperience and experience

With 150k in the saddle, complacency is my foe…….

^^^ This is the truth! Alert all the %$#@ing time.

Along with the old saying that the number one thing that injures old men is thinking they are still young men.

Not to mention stealing the pilots saying: "There are old pilots. And bold pilots. But very few old, bold pilots!"

The biggest threat, still, is morons behind the wheels of their SUV's who are texting, adjusting the radio, putting on makeup (Used to just be the wimmen-folk), engineering a hostile takeover of General Motors, Making coffee, getting transitioninig surgery, picking their toes, eating burgers, cooking burgers, playing with baby, taking selfies, road raging, Asian, unable to read or Habla EEngleesh, just looking at the GPS and suffering TDS... all at once.

They are trying to kill us all the time... And some of them are trying really hard!

I was riding my bike once with some buddies, maybe 20 years ago, going about 80mph on the interstate with my wife on the back. I hit something that blew out my back tire instantly. It was like I was suddenly running 80mph on a sheet of ice. My bike was all over the road as I was trying to cross 3 lanes of traffic while slowing and dodging traffic. I realized how close I came to killing my wife. Had it been the front tire, I doubt either of us would have made it with the traffic we were in, and without that front tire, you're likely going down fast. That was enough for me..

Thats exactly why I sold mine. Walked away from a nasty spill, realized I was to young/dumb/immature/____________, to ride a motorcycle. Sold it wrecked, with a smile.

Cute little grippy's though, LOL. Get well, brother.

I had a high school friend who was hit from the back, while on his motorcycle by an old lady who never saw him and ended dragging him for about 150yds before a truck pulled in front of her and stopped her.

He lost all movement and feeling from the middle of his back down. He spent a lot of time at the UC Davis hospital.

I'm not going to lie, that scared the ever lovin' shit out of me. I promised myself that I would never ride a motorcyle on pavement.

I'm not tough like you guys. I have a few stories about bull riders. Just another hobby I don't fully understand. I'm a scaredy cat.

Mindset: EVERY accident is your fault. (Control what you can, predict and anticipate)

Extra lighting on front. Modules for back that use all rear lights and flash a few times when braking.

Loud pipes save lives (peacock effect includes sound)

Air horn (use it like a nervous tic)

Intersections are the Death Zone (tactics, use cars as shields, stay in center lane to avoid left turn “hook” . Make sure cars see you. Blow horn or rev engine as needed.

    In adverse conditions-Slow down

    Never allow tailgaters.

When stopping suddenly swerve. People behind you will brake instinctively wondering why you are swerving.

Use hand signals. For braking raise your hand up, then down. Don’t worry about correct DOT signal or hand.

    Animals are the wild card.

Intersections, construction zones, etc say “what don’t I see”……

You have been in an accident, you’re down. Where are you and what is the quickest way off the roadway before you get run over.

ALWAYS carry a pocket flashlight with a strobe.

A college friend used to ride as a friend of an MC. Things he said made a lot of sense to me. Stay way behind or get way ahead. If you are in the middle of cars, they don't care about you. If you treat every car like it is out to get you, you are properly aware.

He could get far ahead of some cars. He had a '74 Sportster that was formerly a drag racing bike. It could boogie.
