and is completely the option of the competitor. The 3rd run will automatically stand no matter the outcome. This may change per match director and competitor's discretion(vote).
- Targets must fall to be counted. Unless they are the non falling type. In the case of pigeons, if a target is thrown "broke" the shooter has to engage the broken pieces anyway to avoid a fail to engage penalty, as the target was eliminated it is esentially counted but you must engage.

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

Barry I have four shotguns. What you want to shoot, pump or Auto? Have a Beretta 1201FP, Mossberg 590A1, Tactical 870 in 12 and 20ga. If you are really feelin froggy you can even use my 20ga O/U, kind of a handicap if you ask me though
smile.gif

I do plan to bring most of my shotguns to the matches in case we get some who have a need. I am working on some light loads for the 20ga 870 for women and juniors. I have a 3/4oz load using Green Dot that is very mild and takes the Texas Star and poppers with authority.

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

I guess I want to try this one. I'm in. Do I need to IM any one? My scatter gun is pistol grip only. Does it matter?

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

I think I will have to catch the one in December. Virginia Tech is playing Bowling Green and it is Veteran's Appreciation Game... (Camo' uni's).

Wifey is telling me I have to go, especially since we got our ass handed to us by Pitt. (by the way Timmy Wilson has a nice stand-up about what should happen to a coach from the south if they go to Pitt and have their ass handed to them).

I hope it goes smooth though! Thanks for letting my help work it up with you guys.

Brian

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

I'll see you guys tomorrow.

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

Well the first TGAC match is in the bag at CVRPC in Conover. Thanks to everyone who came out today. We had a total of 10 shooters which wasn't bad considering some who wante dto be there were simply not able to attend. We had great weather today and it was mild starting with a cool morning and fairly mild afternoon.
The match ran smooth thanks to all the help setting targets and running the line. Thanks for making my job easy, as I don't think I had to call down a single competitor for handling their weapon while they weren't on stage.
I want to congratulate everyone as this is not easy, as usual it turned out to be much harder than it looks.
Tim Josey did very well and was very consistent and it payed off with a third place spot. Bryan Johnson really put the fear in all of us, with his 2 best of the day pistol scores. I honestly thought he had the whole match locked up. I did offer to let him shoot my Beretta shotgun and am sorry he did not take me up on the offer. I nor Bryan had any more shells the Beretta would digest. There was .11 seconds separating 1st and second and believe it or not this is one of the toughest situations a match director has....winning a match, so I will not toot my own horn.
We were glad Skep-tic came over from the eastern part of the state to try this match out, and hope to see you all again in December. Bring a friend and lets get the roster up to 20 next month.
We learned a bit today and some things may need tweaking a bit. I think everyone felt they got their money's worth and if we can, we will try to add an optional fourth run to each course. We engaged 5 poppers and the Texas Star with the pistols and 3 poppers and the Texas Star with the shotguns. This may change for next month so plan to see something different.

Many thanks everyone and plan to come out December 8th!

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

You're damn right it's quick! Little bugger has me thinkin of buying a faster meaner pistol. If he gets another shotgun I am....T O A S T.

I think we need to have one of those Big Johnson TShirts made up for him
smile.gif

I tell you true, he is not to be underestimated. I give him a hard row to hoe and ride his ass, but I think he is one of the best young shooters I have ever seen.

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

Less than 2 weeks away now everyone. I have lowered the entry fee due to some suggestions and in an effort to increase participation. I understand that ammo is high and some may balk at firing a box or two of center fire ammo in a match. I promise you will get your money's worth. It should take you no more than 1 box of pistol ammo to fire the course, that is however up to you.
We are working on some different things for 2013 to perhaps offset the cost a bit. Possibly incorporating rimfire to squeeze in some modified 3 gun. Our range is nice but we just don't have a suitable place for the rifle portion of 3 gun so I am considering a reduced course with rimfire for the rifle.

Let me know if you plan to attend. If you would like to attend but can't get there by start time please let me know and we can work it out.

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

I'm planning on attending with all my pertinant toys and plenty of ammo. I'll also bring along my Nordic 22 upper for any after match shenanigans.

Re: Two Gun Action Challenge, Conover, NC

Good to see your schedule will let you attend this time Tom. Look forward to shooting with you again.

This weekend folks, be there. I may not be able to hang around after the match, but I am sure some guys will. If I don't get my deer this week I may run out on ya'll about 3pm.

If I am bringing extra shotguns or ammo for someone please remind me. I have a pile of stuff to do this week plus get some hunting done.

I hope to be at the range by 0800 if I can. I will set up that morning. Thanks.
Joe

Re: TGAC Conover,NC *December results up!*

December 8th 2012 results:

We had a beautiful day for a match with sunshine and temps eventually climbing to low 70's, we couldn't have ordered better weather.
We had a really good turnout for a match that was frankly, scheduled in a bad time of the year. There is a lot going on this time of year with the holidays and hunting season, so we appreciate all the competitors coming out to have some fun, and do some shooting.
There was lots of camaraderie, as competitors loaned weapons and cheered their fellow shooters, it appears everyone had a great time. Bryan Johnson showed a second match in a row, that he definitely has the "goods", with another trip to the winner's circle, and a very respectable 3rd place finish, with a total 4 time agg of 59.91 seconds, he also had the top shotgun score of 24.52 seconds. Bryan used a Glock 34 and a Benelli M2.
Next up in second place was Steve Roe, firing this match for the first time. Steve turned in a total agg of 54.36 seconds and indisputable second best pistol score of 25.26 seconds, using an EAA Witness Match in 9mm and his Benelli M2 shotgun.
The top spot went to Joe Lassiter with a total agg of 46.59 seconds, using an EAA Witness Match in 9mm and an Ithaca 37 Defender.
Other standout shooters were Todd Holt, Ronny Brown, and Tom McClosky, for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place shotgun scores, respectively. Tim Josey had the 4th place pistol score. Quay Hunter had a very impressive score as he was using a 5 shot 11/87 special purpose. He can certainly load and shoot a shotgun fast!
The shotgun course consisted of small poppers hidden behind large poppers, and the Texas Star for a total of 9 targets. The pistol course consisted of 4 large poppers, the Star, and two small poppers, one of which was placed at 25-30yds for a 3 second bonus.

I want to thank everyone who came out to shoot and thank you all for your help setting targets. Thanks to Brian Franklin for bringing the cameras and hopefully we can look forward to some pics soon. Thanks to those who travel many miles to attend these matches.
We would like to have your suggestions for the matches in 2013. I will be scheduling the matches for 2013 soon and will post times and dates. We may bump this competition to 3 gun next year. We aren't professionals and will continue to try and encourage the same campy style of match you are used to at Conover. We want everyone to feel welcome.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC *December results up!*

Hey folks.
I am attempting to start up the schedule for 2013. I will continue this thread and simply change the heading from month to month so we can keep it simple.

I am looking for input on what you want to see this year and also when you would like to start the season. Basically we can start any time after February. Technically we could start in Fbruary but I am consiering the weather at the range. We could have a bluebird day in February but I woudn't count on it not being at least wet. I hate slogging steel in the rain...call me lazy or a fair weather shooter...I can take it.

I am considering dropping the Texas Star from the pistol portion and adding some falling steel plates. Also considering 2 shotgun and 2 pistol courses and giving the "option" of running a third run. I will have to tweak the rules a bit on the third run to combat any angle shooting manuevers by competitors, still working on this. I am trying to give you bang for your buck with the ability to conserve ammo (due to current ammo shortages) and still remain competitive.

We aren't trying to be just like anyone else so this format is in uncharted territory. I have had little feedback and want you to chime in and tell me what you want to see. I can't promise we will do everything you want and our goal is not to make it so easy a caveman can do it. Still don't know about adding rifle and with the current climate...again, not sure many want toshoot up their 5.56 ammo right now.

Let me know something folks and let me know if you plan to attend in 2013. I would hate to quit before we really got started.

Thanks
Joe Lassiter

Re: TGAC Conover,NC *December results up!*

Im in for a match in March or May. Gonna shoot at Woody's in April so I wanna keep that month free. Ive been wanting to come shoot with yall for a while now and this will give me a perfect excuse. I agree with the no rifle sentiment. I probably wont be shooting 3-gun this year like I planned for the lack of 223 ammo reason.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC *December results up!*

Look forward to shooting with you Ross. Hope you can make it over several times this year. Keep our 22TSC match in mind as well. It is a great scaled down tactical style match.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC *December results up!*

Okay folks I am shooting from the hip and have made the schedule. It is flexible somewhat but here it is for 2013.
March 2nd
May 4th
July 6th
September 7th
November 2nd

The club voted to allow us use of the pistol range on the first Saturday of the month through December. I had only planned to hold this match every other month but that could change with feedback from the competitors. I am the assistant MD for the 22 TSC so having TGAC every other month gives me a bit of a break. Basically I had only planned to run 5 of these matches a year but that depends on your feedback. It is a pretty easy match to run so I will be flexible if there is more interest in a couple extra matches.
I do plan to have some side matches incorporated into the days events this year and will advise on that structure in the coming weeks leading up to the first match.
Keep me informed of your interest and schedule conflicts so that I may maximize the attendance as much as possible. I will shoot in the first match but plan to bow out of the money for the first match. I know some will say "no fair to you" but that is my decision for now.
If there is interest in a running aggregate for the year I will entertain that possibility.
I am working on a logo and the possibility of shirts or hats for sale at break even price. Please let me know what you would prefer.
Thanks
Joe

Re: TGAC Conover,NC *December results up!*

You guys could probably get a good carpool going from down east. We had a couple guys come over from the Raleigh/Durham area last year. Bunsen comes over quite a bit through the summer.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC *December results up!*

Yes...vids would be nice. I am not concerned with hearing the steel ringing...dub that sucker with some killer rock as we discussed. Might want to use Freebird or Stairway to heaven on Spagetti-O's run....ooooohh was that wrong. Can't believe I said that.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC 2013 Start?

[video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2qBf_T49l4[/video]

Many thanks to Franklin "Ford Coppola" for making the vids and pics. I had almost forgot how "excited" I was about my pistol run. I told you guys I had an out of body experience and couldn't believe my luck.
I can see the value of a video. As fast as my run was it was easy to spot several holes in my game.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC 2013 Start?

I have tried my best to actually imbed the video instead of the link with no luck. Don't know what I am doing wrong. Sorry bout that.

It's not you. It likely has something to do with the widget for Snipers Hide that imbeds the video. I can get some Youtube videos to imbed but not others.

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LHKM7xG_Zzw"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LHKM7xG_Zzw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

I will certainly be venturing over to Conover for monthly TSC matches and will try to make several of these as well. I plan on dragging Branson to as many TSC matches as possible (especially now that he has a CZ 452) and now I guess I need to work on McLarenRoss as well.

Gotcha back bro.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC 2013 Start?

I will be there with you guys on March 2nd. I can't wait to hang out with some of my buddies and shoot some targets.

Re: TGAC Conover,NC 2013 Start?

We will be glad to have you Jevans.

Everyone,
I have done a lot of study on what we plan to do with the setup and how it relates to ammo and component shortages. We have made a decision to give everyone some variety while keeping a close eye on ammo usage.
As of right now we plan to set up two shotgun courses and 2 pistol courses, and run them one time. This can and likely will change through the year. Just telling you what teh first match will be.

I know some have plenty of ammo but we still want to make the match desirable for everyone, give the most bang for the buck, and make it competitive. I will allow one equipment alibi for pistol and one for shotgun. Usually we only have range alibis but in light of the fact we will only run it once I will allow an equipment alibi.

I highly reccomend you practice engaging targets with a pistol from 7 to 40yds. The regular course will be between7-20 just as the rules state, but we plan to incorporate bonus and penalty targets in the course this year. A bonus target may be encountered as far away as 40yds max.

Another thing I would encourage is sighting in your pistol. I know too few people do this.

Hope we have a crowd on March 2nd.
Thanks
Joe

One more day guys. I will be at the range Friday to set up in the afternoon. If any members want to help I could use a hand. I think Reddog is coming over.

Unfortunately Im not gonna make this one guys. My anniversary is this weekend and I thought I had Monday off to take the wife on a get away Sunday/Monday but now I dont so I had to push it back a day and that kicked me outta the match. Sorry. I was really looking forward to meeting all of yall and shooting with yall.

Hate you can't make it Ross, and happy anniversary. We will have plenty more opportunities this year. Tom, look forward to TSC weekend. Hope you got the cobwebs knocked out of that "old gun"...I know it'll shoot good though :) We set up today and decided that we are simply too short on room for 2 full pistol courses and two full shotgun courses. Decided to set up one of each and run it twice. Thinking some may like that better and it will still hold us to one box of shells and one box of pistol cartridges. Still gonna be fun and plenty of challenge. The course will not be easy. In Reddog's words,"Joe you are a devious bastard, this is gonna be fun!"

We had a great day that started out with light snow and rain mix but turned out to be a nice afternoon, albeit a bit cold. As I have said, this time of year in WNC the weather can be ugly or nice, we had a bit of both.

We always expect a light turnout on days like this but we had a respectable turnout with 9 total competitors, and a couple shooting the match for the first time. The weather was cool but the competition was warm and the fellowship upbeat and jovial. Our shotgun course consisted of 9 targets including the Texas Star and a pistol course consisting of 11 targets including a small pepper popper set long for a 3 second bonus. Both courses were set to increasing distances and targets had to be engaged near to far. A 1 second penalty was asessed for every target hit out of sequence, few penalties were asessed.

The first place spot went to Joe Lassiter(yours truly)using an Ithaca D.S. Police Special and a Witness Match in 9mm Luger. I erroniously called the Ithaca a Defender in a previous post. I can't say enough good things about this combo for our little game at CVRPC. As you know I opted out of the money for the first match, but I will retain bragging rights till May :)
Ronny Brown brought his "A" game to the match and was hard to guard. He was shooting his usual 1100 Remington and brought out his high end 1911 with some 15 round mags. We all gave him a hard time about that "extra handle" on his 1911, but he made it talk and only left 3.39 seconds on the table between 1st and 2nd! Ronny also set the bar high in shotgun, with a 10.52sec run on 9 targets, besting the previous match record of 10.45 on 8 targets. The mandatory 2 shot reload makes that even better...."Load Ronny!"
Brian Franklin really upped his game and took 3rd place, with his full on tactical 870 Remington and his 40 S&W. One of Brian's pistol runs was the second best of the day and he put up some very impressive pump shotgun scores. As I said about TSC and this guy, when he gets a bit more traction we are all in trouble.
Tim Josey took 4th place with his tricked out 1100 Remington and Ruger in 9mm Luger. Tim is a very good shooter and is no dark horse in any match. When you set your sights on the top slots, Tim will likely be right there smiling back at you.

Congrats to all our shooters today, it's not as easy as it looks.

A special thanks to Curtis, who came out to help with the match and keep scores and stats for us today. Curtis spent the night at the hospital with his father and has had a rough couple weeks. Many of us have been there, staying long hours with an ailing loved one. Our thoughts and prayers are with Curtis and his family.

Thanks to all the competitors that helped set up and tear down the range, and for all the help in setting targets.

Come on out and shoot with us in May, you won't find a nicer bunch of guys to share a firing line.

<--- True story folks.. the man is hard to pass. That is a fast fast Ithica and even faster Tan in this man's hand.

Come out and shoot with us... if for anything, just to have fun.

OK ya'll we are just under 2 weeks out on the match for May 4th.

Plan to do things a bit different this month. This will be a moving match with 3 stations and will have a mandatory reload on the pistol portion as well as the shotgun, only 1 reload mandatory. We will set up one course and it will be shot with pistol and shotgun. Please be there for the pre match briefing so everyone is on the same page. 180 rule will be enforced. There will be two runs for best time but we are implementing an "option". If you have a bad run you will have the option to drop that score, but it will be permanently struck. "Option" runs will stand as score, good or bad. Range alibis only.

Let me know if you plan to attend.
Thanks
Joe L.
