Hey guys, just picked up my first bolt gun, a remington 700 sps aac. I am already realizing there is a whole bunch that needs to be swapped out, so I'm aiming for as close to an M40a5 as possible for a frame of reference. I live in Tucson AZ and look forward to gaining a bit of wisdom here from you guys/gals. I'm an avid reloader so I'm excited to get into loading for the .308 so I can get the most accurate and rifle specific ammo possible. Cheers.

add your location when you get a chance on your tag man. tht way if i see anything inparts ill send it your way. phoenixcustomrifles.com is a member and keith and brad are top notch guys. they could help ya with the remy

Genius. Thanks so much brother. I added my location to my info. I'm realizing there's going to be a lot of smithing going on for the build, which bums me out a bit because I like to do things myself, but hacking on the bolt handle to thread it for example freaks me out a bit. Also I'm used to building AR's and AK's, so the whole "bedding" and everything I have no idea what that crap even means. Ha ha. I'm going to have to do a lot of reading and lurking I can tell. I already can tell the hogue stock is crap, it's all flexy towards the front and seems to negate the whole free float barrel (I'm sure this has probably been talked to death here if I searched), but I'm quickly realizing this will be at least a 2k gun, which I had no idea when I bought it. Oh we'll. that's the way these hobbies usually work unfortunately.

I was going to do an accurate m40a5, but the one deviation ill do is the stock, that AI 1.5 in FDE is damn sexy. I have an affinity towards FDE even though its tacticool because where we live in southern AZ it is also pretty practical. Plus every dbm conversion I want seems to use AI mags anyway. Everywhere I looked online is sold out of AI 1.5's. is it just a back order and wait your ass off kinda deal? Just picked up a Vortex viper 6.5-20x50 mil dot scope. I have a buddy who swears by it, so hopefully I didn't piss away $500.

I've never had an issue finding ai chassis but the mags go in and out of stock all the time til the bs hit. I've had my order in for 10rds since early dec. and the vortexes are nice man, I run the pst mrad.

Greetings from Tucson. We should keep in touch and maybe we can meet at one of the ranges here in town. Let me know how you feel about it.

+1 for Phoenix Custom Rifles. If hacking on your bolt handle isn't your thing KRG offers a bolt on tactical knob thats about $25 and it works nicely if you're looking to spend money on other upgrades first. Check with Mile high as I think I saw that they had AICS 1.5's in FDE in stock a few days ago.

Don't know if you saw it or not but there is a class right up the road from you here: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/showthread.php?t=179809
