Component shortage - How much longer?

I remember going through this in 2009 - no primers, powder, bullets or ammo to be found. Luckily for me I had plenty on hand and I still do. What I don't remember is how long it took before things calmed down and the stores had stuff in stock.

Anyone recall how long it took, and based on that how long do you think the current run will last?

For ammo, I received a couple of backorders from Cabelas in June or July of 2009. Hornady owed me a "free" box of bullets because I had bought a set of dies during spring of 2009 and I didn't receive the bullets until the fall of 2009.

I think the circumstances are different now so there's probably no way to predict when the shortages will abate.

I didi just find 8 Lbs of Varget at Wideners online on Friday and 500 168 SMK's at Midway yesterday.
Maybe things are starting to let up.

Where are the primers, I haven't seen any, or anyone posting of some available. They were the last things to come around last time also.
I'd almost bet people are buying more than they normally would right now, which will postpone things also. The quicker people quit paying inflated prices will help things too.
The last scare was just the result of electing the loser, this is a little more serious.

I waited 9 months for my order to be shipped from Powder Valley. When they were re-stocked I put in an extra order to have some buffer.

It would not surprise me if the current run takes 6-9 months.

Its tough to stop the panic. Powder and primers are becoming available but only momentarily unless you are willing to pay double. Brunos has some primers but at $60 I'll wait a while. I hope things settle down by October so I can restock.

I remember the craziness of 1994. It took awhile, but last time in 2008-9 it was 12 months or so before the loading supply companies caught up. After it does let up, don't get caught with your pants down! I have said for years, that brass and lead are the gold and silver of tomarrow. J

it would help if people quit posting threads like this. All it does is fuel the panic.

Incidentally, I haven't had a problem finding what I need...I simply look around and buy what I need when I find it. If it takes a month or so to find it, fine.

I got caught with my pants downs so to speak. I bought a new caliber right before it all broke lose and now can't find anything to load. Next time reloading supplies as soon as I decide to buy a new gun.

I hope it's not too much longer
Hi guys,

While this is anecdotal evidence I'm giving, I will say I've already seen powder and primers getting easier to find than a month ago. They still sell fast, yeah, but the incoming supply seems healthy and the stock in stores stays around long enough for people to get what they want without rushing. Like I said, this is just my own experience, so it's one small data point among many.

Yours,

David

I not so sure I agree with you sean.
Getting it out in the open can ease the panic. Letting pople know now isn't the time to start their hoarding, just buy what you need and move on.
