Economical brand of scope mounts..

I'm doing a budget build and ran into a little snag.. The rifle is a .308 rem 700 spsv barrel mounted on a mcrees stock with a vortex viper pst ffp 4-16x. I got good deals on all of them so I want to try to keep my pockets in check for my Elk hunt next year. The scope mounts & bases I purchased were the TPS steel lows but I just received an email saying their out of stock with no ETA on them. I assume by no ETA means 3-4wks+ which is when I will be needing this gun by. Everyplace I've looked is out of stock or just way to pricey for the build I want.

Now before I get flamed for the first post/use search function thing, I've tried searching and come across two things: Way to broad spectrum of recommendations and the recommendations are usually from 3-4+ years ago. I don't want to go on dated info. I see a ton of posts recommending weaver for 1k range builds and I dont exactly to trust to follow that.. The rifle is primarily going to be used for 400-500yard shots, 700 max. Maybe a 1k poke or two if I feel ballsy enough and a groundhog is fat enough.

NF's and BO's are just entirely too pricey, the markup on machined metal gets a little crazy which is why I went with TPS originally, quality machining and not as high markup. Does any one have recommendations on scope rings/bases in the $150-175 area?

EDIT: Meant to put bases too.

Try warne maxima rings, I have had them on multiple rifles from 300wsm, 308, 6.5, 22lr, etc and have never had a problem with them. should be around $40 or so from midway, brownells, or midsouth. Kind of a pain to put on because they are vertically split, but work well (egw makes a similar ring, egw practical rings I think, about $60).
There are also the Warne tactical rings, a bit more, but are good quality also. If you can find them for around $75-80 they are a good buy, more than that I would just buy Leupold mk4 or seekins.

Look at the Weaver tactical base, they make them in 0moa and 20moa, about $35 I think. I have never used them, but have heard nothing but good things about them. Check out the EGW HD bases also. I have one on a savage build and it is nice for the price (around $60ish). I actually purchased it because they were out of TPS bases when I was looking. SWFA has them for 59.99 for the 700.

^^ Exactly, Warne Maxima rings and warne dual bases. If your PST is 44mm obj, you can get the bell down nice and low. Standard Warne dual bases with no cant will get you to 700 no problem. Your PST should have zero stop shims, but there will not be enough as your will be a the higher part of elevation travel, but you can use the high end as a max travel stop, i/e 700 yards and back down to zero if you get lost in the travel . Now this info is based on 1/2 inc of elevation , not sure if the PST has 1/2 or 1/4, the HS has 1/2 moa high speed turret, so one revolution will get you to 700Y (shooting a 178 amax around 2650 fps)

I have the Burris Xtrem tactical rings on all of my rifles...$ 50-60 bucks yes I have $50 rings in between my $3500 rifle and $2000 scope:) never had a problem with them.

Thanks for the reply guys I appreciate it. For the bases I think I'll go with the EGW or Weaver tactical base. For the ringsI'm going to research into each of those brands and decide from there.. The Burris Xtrem tac rings are kind of appealing just because of the 6 screw design. I suppose I can always bed the rings if I'm worried about looseness.

I keep seeing stuff pop up about the weaver rings.. any one have any experience with the weaver tactical rings?

Post edited because I'm an idiot.

It seems it is helpful to READ someone's post before you respond to it.

Wow.

Warne and Burris both make good rings at good prices. As long as you aren't tossing your rifle around, you should be good to go for a long time.

I have had excellent luck with the weaver tactical base and rings. Including on my 300 WM before it had a muzzle break. I use the 40 MOA base on the WM and 20 MOA on the .308.

+1 on the warne, made of steel.... I don't see how these are not as tough as NF or other high end steel rings. FYI I also have the warn quick detach, and return to zero just as well as the troy mount......
