has anyone here use the terrapin as a spotting scope?

i have never used one and did not know if it has any magnification in it.

i found some info it has 5X what distance would you say that is good for.

as stated below mag to low can some one recommend a set of LRF bino's around the 2000.00 mark.

    thank you

5x is fine for ranging, but I would prefer 7x on that unit.

I will soon have one of the new Bushnell Elite 8x40 spotters, with a pic rail on top. We'll see how the Terrapin fares in tandem with it when attached to the rail.

No they are too under powered.

Most get the Ashbury mout to Co-locate them to a spotter to use them together.

The magnification is really the only drawback to them

Which Ashbury mount? I've looked through their mounts and am not able to figure out exactly which one would allow me to mount my Terrapin to my bi-pod/spotter.

    Thanks,
    L

Ya, Ashbury is not cheap by any means. Not sure if anyone makes anything else even close.

They are the only ones I know that make a mount that is adjustable to Co Locate the unit.

Is there any other mount that is set-up to grab a pic rail on bottom and a tripod screw on top?

I used a pvs-14 weapon mount to attach my terrapin to my spotter. I just removed the small indexing ridge from the top of the mount so it's flat.

You can buy them off eBay for cheap. CoryT was/is making a mount that would be the one I would want for mounting a terrapin to a Leupold spotter if I had not already purchased a bunch of stuff. I looked at the mount lowlight listed but Cory had mentioned it may not work well with the terrapin. Here are a few pics of mine:
