Hey all, appears to be a lot of good info on the site, I hope to make use of as much as I can and help in any way possible.

I'm kinda new to longer range shooting. To start, I have a T/C Pro-Hunter with a .204 barrel that I need to get a scope for. I will be using it for chuck hunting and figure not to be shooting more than 300-400 yds max. Looking for a mid price range scope, but my main question is what magnification would be optimal at those yardages?

Thanks!

I would opt for a NightForce NXS compact 2.5-10x32. They retail for $1450 but I believe there's one in the Optics For Sale section that can be had for less than that.

Oh...and welcome to the Hide.

Thanks for the reply KS. But, my "mid range" price is not quite in NF territory! Lol
I'm thinking something in the $200-300 range.
Would that 2.5x10 be the ideal magnification for my estimated range?

Yes, a vortex in 2.5-10 would work great, also just about any other scope as 300-400yds is very doable with a lot of scopes.

Good luck hitting a PST for that price range. If you want a well made scope and don't care about variable power, I'd suggest the SWFA SS 10x42 ($299). What may help you more is finding scopes you can put hands (eyes) on to get a better feel for what matters to you - perhaps a large gun show, or pawn shop or gun store carrying used. Tell the Hide what part of the country you are in and someone can make recommendations.

Good luck!
