Member Link Up Any Illinois Shooters around?

I live just out of Chicago and will be joining N. Aurora Sportsman Club, they have a 600 yrd range. Looking for another shooter/spotter. I am a Marine Sniper Veteran looking to get back behind the glass. Looking for someone with experience, I don't want to train someone, just looking for another shooter that can spot shots and vic versa. I have some good training I can swap and maybe you may too. I am a member and do certifications on the 600 yd range - let me know when you are joining and the certification can be potentially done the same day as the initiation - will drop you an email also

I live 15 miles from the club, and joined last year. George (above poster) did my 600 cert in December. I plan to shot the 600 as much as I can this summer.

I do however plan on joining the same club. George, any idea if the club would pro rate their membership rate for me for just the summer? I'm still willing to do the volunteer hours I just go to college out of state and can't make the 9 hour trip back and fourth every weekend just to shoot.

Hoping to be at the range over the summer with you guys!

ASC does pro rate based on the month you join.

I just joined last year and love it. Check out the website, they do have open days where the public can try the range out.

Do you know if they'd be willing to let me join for just the summer? The 9 hour ride from Ohio to Illinois is a bit much just to justify a range trip when I return to the school in the fall...

I'm pretty sure they base the rate from January 1st till the end of the year. You have to pay prorated dues from join date, and then they also charge a fee of $300 or so at sign up for new members. Joining for just a few months would be expensive!

Gah, this is true, guess I'll just bite the bullet and pay even while I'm away at school...

How's their 600 yard range? Also, I heard rumors that they either had or were working on a 1000 yard range, this true?

I don't think they have any plans for a 1000, but I'm a nobody so what do I know... 600 is great! A bit tuff on wet days cause they want you to walk it to set targets, rather then driving while dry.

Join, you will be happy you did!

no plans for over 600 yds and the site would not have the room - to get that distance Lodi WI is the best close range, otherwise get a shooting buddy to do a road trip to Raton NM, 35,000 acre range for a 25$ yearly fee, when school lets out in May is the perfect time, nice weather and not busy -

at ASC there are no partial memberships, every one has the key all year and pays the same, but many only come out in the summer - I certified an active duty officer who maintains a membership just for when he visits his parents on leave so do not feel bad - to make it worth it, use it a lot during the summer and if you are willing to shoot in all weather conditions you will about have the place to yourself for winter break

Thanks for the reply George, good to hear some of these things answered for sure - mainly the partial membership aspect. From the pictures on the site it looks like a great range, I plan on joining as soon as I get the chance to do so (hopefully this summer).

I've got plenty of time before I work my way out to, or past, 1000 yards so I'm not too worried there; 600 should suffice.

Good to see there's some IL members here on the hide, I'd be up a creek without a paddle otherwise it seems!
