Do any of you folks have or use ghillie suits? I made one a year or 2 ago, very nice, threw it on a hillside and almost lost it! However it doesn't cover my lower legs... Do you guys wear home made, manufactured?

I do. They are home made. The one is a full suit that covers everything. The second is just a head covering and a short jacket. I use that one for coyote hunting. When I do that most of the time my legs are hidden by natural material.

Okay cool that was something I was wondering as well. Is your ghillie sewn to a BDU jacket? Mine just "drapes" over the BDU, but doesn't slip off my shoulders surprisingly. (Has arm holes and a hood to go over a Boonie hat) I'll try to get a pic later if my hernia isn't bothering me too much

The full suit is attached to BDU and my boonie hat. The smaller one attaches via buttons. It is easy to move from jacket to jacket to help match the season. The hat part is just attached to a boonie hat. I would take pics of mine but I just moved agian and they are boxed up tight. Mine leave lots to be needed but I am only trying to hide from critters so less works nicly for me. I am sure a real sniper would be like there he is.

Haha I hear ya, that's how I feel about mine! I wish I could take a close look at the marines ghillies to see how it's put together

Check out Liberty Tree Tactical http://www.libertytreetactical.com/Liberty_Tree_Tactical/Home.html our team uses him for all of ours. Check out the Gadsden line, it is a viper hood and a set of chap type lowers. This allows us to pull them out, garnish and go without changing uniforms. Or just thrown the top and bottom on and in about 12 seconds your stalking. Great quality and just send him a photo of your AO in various seasons and he can come up with the best garnish. Not that pricy at all, each new operator in my section gets the full set, top, chap style bottom, rifle garnish, tripod garnish and a pack cover for the gunslinger II and he had the full system out in about 2-3 weeks. We would make our own in the past, the old right of passage thing, but even our die hard former Marine sniper has given in.

Check out the "Fieldcraft" portion of the "Forward Operating Base." Lots of good home made suits and questions regarding them. Hope this helps.

^+1, I got some info there and made one. I like diy projects and already had all of the supplies. It's not sniper quality by any means, and I've never actually used it hunting haha, but it is pretty cool.

Discokid, we had training yeaterday and I took some photos of the chaps and viper top. Let me know if your interested and I can post some up.

Here is one shot off my buddies phone. This was after I removed all the natural veg and is of the back of the togg/hood. I'll postsome better ones when I get off duty.

@ sully

Awesome stuff!!! I emailed libertytreetactical last night with my order :D I'm getting a first line model, multicam (high desert colored ghillie). Thank you for your help! I feel like a kid on Christmas haha

Excellent. I still love the rite of passage of making your own and all but for short money you get a very high quality product fast. You will find lots of room to add garnish and it blends very well.

@ sully

Are you a SWAT sniper for your dept? I've always wondered if they wore ghillies and stuff. I'm thinking about going back home to Utah and going through P.O.S.T. But I hate running, and I don't know if a dept. would take someone who had a hernia surgery.

John at Liberty Tree Tactical makes good stuff, for sure. I'd recommend him to anyone.

Disco, yes I am SRT/TM (Special Response Team Tactical Marksman) but short simple answer is yes. We just use the SRT to be different and the old TM section leader was a former Marine Sniper and correctly feels that LEO is more TM then true sniper. And we deploy in our suits about 40% of the time. My AO covers a huge area and some call outs are urban and we set up in buildings, root tops, under on in vehicles etc. and the rest is rural. The other day we were called to a farm for a wood booger who shot his brother and had his family hostage. We had teams set between 100-280 yards that had to stalk to get into position. So in our area and AO we use them quite a bit. They area also great when the narcotics boys ask for a surveillance. Nothing against the drug guys but sitting in an unmarked across the street from the target location is not the best way to observe.

That made me want to be a cop even more! That is true, sitting in an unmarked across the street from a drug dealer sounds a ton more risky than being invisible in a ghillie 100yds away. I've got a pretty neat story from when I was a kid, I'll send you a PM :)

RE: Ghillie suits?

Do you have any recommendations for good "military-grade" ghillie suit materials, that i could order maybe from the USA to Europe without any restrictions? I need to "repair" and upgrade my own ghillie suit. Thanks for help
