Hello all, I'm gonna be in the market for a new rifle here in the next month and I've narrowed it down to these two. I can't spend any more because it'll cut into my scope fund and reloading EQ fund. So with that said for those that have been lucky enough to have used both, which do you prefer and why?

Kind of apples to oranges. The TRG is a fantastic value because compared to an MRAD, it's almost half the price, still very accurate and available in short and long action calibers. With the MRAD, you pay more but you get a folding stock and maybe caliber conversions some day. If it were me, I'd get a TRG-42 in .338LM with the Sako bipod and call it a day.

DTA if you want Switch Barrel, TRG42 if You want a Hell of a Accurate/Reliable Extreme Long Range Rifle and can Afford and Have a place to shoot the .338 Lapua Magnum all the time.

What is so special about desert tactical? I don't even like the looks of them. I would much rather have an Accuracy International or Surgeon rifle.

Well, compared to the MRAD (which was part of the OPs question), the SRS has had multiple conversion kits available since 2009.

DTA SRS new A1 model-all day long! They shoot great and are practical with the funky looks growing on you after a while. Ergonomically perfect and great support from the company. I have an MRAD I love, but purchased an SRS for more options, since who knows when MRAD barrel conversions will be available.

TRG. At LEAST as accurate as either of the MRAD or DTA, with a far better trigger and far nicer bolt throw, and almost less expensive enough to buy a Schmidt and Bender with the money left over. TRG 42 is the best value going in .338 rifles right now. Check with Euro Optic, they have them starting at $3100.

I perosnanlly didn't like the DTA. The gun is very uncomortable to shoot. Yes its cool, true multi-caliber. Its just not ergonomic to my tastes.

Is the 10 twist on the TRG any bit of a negative if you want to exclusively shoot the 300 grain bullets? I only ask because many companies are going to the 9 or something similar twist rate.

Thanks,

Shaky

The 10 twist will stabilize 300 gr. pills quite nicely. Earlier TRG's had a 12 twist which was problematic but I don't think you can find them anymore. (not new at least).

I cant speak to to the Barret MRAD (looks like a real nice rifle) but I have shot the TRG 42 w/250grain SMKs and it is an awesome weapon; the barrel had a 12 twist...Super smooth bolt, great balance in terms of weight, handled the recoil nicely (Sako's muzzle brake was attached at the time) and very accurate. I was considering going with one myself but then the prices for everything went through the roof so I decided to go w/ a .300 Win Mag...
