Rifle Scopes Vortex 2.5-10x32

Just got mine today, loving it so far. Here it is:

Can anyone take through the scope pictures. I sold my NF 2.5-10 a couple years ago and have been trying to find a replacement that won't break the bank. I have not heard as many good reviews for a candidate until this scope.

Thanks.

Got mine today. I'm waiting for a new DD MFR 12.0 so I can get my stick back together. These are going to be a big hit for good reason. I like that they used a aluminum power selector ring over the rubber. Still not a fan of the fiber optic thingy but that's not a huge deal. I modified a LT RMR base for the Razor. Sorry shitty cell phone pics.

:p

What barrel is that? It looks like a DD S2W, if so, how's it shoot? I just put a DMR type build together using that barrel but have only shot 62 grainers through it.... Getting 1.5 MOA with cheap winchester soft points, but will be doing load development with the heavies this weekend.

It's the DD 16" LW barrel. It shoots well though I've only sighted in the irons at 50yrds (1-1.5") which isn't bad considering my eyesight sucks. I sighted it in w/ 62gr green tips, but will be building a load w/ 75gr bthp's. Hopefully I'll get to see how well it shoots at 100+yrds w/ the scope finally on it....

Through the scope pics

These pictures really do not do the scope justice. They were taken with my ipad about an hour before sunset with the sun no longer visible in the sky. The tree line is about 75 yards away.

I have no idea how to make taking a picture through a scope look good.

I did not realize how off those pictures look. The black ring is significantly smaller in real life and the view is more wall to wall. It is also centered if your head is centered. :)

I talked with Scott the other day about the design durability of this scope. I am taking a seven day rifle course in the summer and was going to give the PST a go if there was a reasonable expectation it would hold up.

Scott told me the guys at vortex designed this scope to be at least as durable as the Leupold MK4 series of rifle scopes. I am assuming they were targeting the scopes known for durability in the Leupold lineup and not the ones with bad reputations. I would hope anyway.

I think that is actually a really good standard for durability in this price range. I have abused many Leupolds and would not hesitate to take one to the field so I am going to hold the PST to the same level of abuse.

The more I find out about this scope the more I like it and the better of a deal I think it is.

Does anyone have this mounted on a Rem 700?

thinking this would be great on a SPS 223 for coyotes

any pics on a R700 would be great

Just ordered one from cameraland for my scar17. I'll be using an ADM Delta to secure it. Hopefully I can get some FGMM 168 or 175 for testing.

My Recce-style Carbine is screaming for one of these. I'd need to ditch the 1-4x PST to come up with the funds (got a trashed tranny in the car...otherwise I'd be ordering one with my tax return...), but I don't know if I could make myself get rid of it. But, it'd be kind of hard to justify having money tied up in both a 1-4x and 2.5-10x especially when I can't find any 68/77gr loads to shoot, let alone drive to the range right now.

I have a KAC LPR that needs an optic. I was taking a hard look at a NF 2.5-10 until I ran across this Vortex. I think I'm gonna give Scott a call.

Do you know if the Butler Creek Tactical One Piece Flip Caps fit the objective? It seems like all of their available sizes skip the Vortex objective size.

Also, does anyone know if there is a switch view lever that fits this?

FWIW, I had a "scope lever" from 3Gun Stuff that fit a Burris MTAC. since I sold the scope, I gave this a try. I had to carefully remove the center ridge in the lever but now it fits as though it was made for it.

So how does this scope compare to a Leupold M3 or Super Sniper 3-9? I have a Mk12 build going on and those are the two other scopes I've been considering. I just got paid too so $$$$ burning a hole in my pocket.

Looks like I will be making a call to Scott on Monday.
Need a 2.5-10x32 Vortex PST to finish out a new upper build!

I have the SS and have not seen a Leupold M3 in recent memory. Based on features alone I like the Vortex more but the SS is a good scope. They are similar in price and both are pretty bare bones. I feel like I give up less with the Vortex. I think both will prove to be very durable. On an AR the smaller profile of the PST will feel more at home. I really love the feel of the vortex compared to the SS. Specifically the feel of the knobs and the reticle.

I think both scopes will be reliable and you would not make a shot with one you will miss with the other. I think you need to compare the features you want and decide which scope best fits your needs. The PST is going on my 18" primary rifle and the SS is going on one of my range rifles. Both will get lots of use and I think in the field either will serve well. I would not worry about beating up either scope. Make a choice and get out and shoot it. Worst cast you don't love it and I am sure you could sell or trade it quite easily. Probably a 1 for 1 with someone who wants the PST or the SS.

Alright! You peckerheads are talking me into one of these. Dammit! I have a brand new Swarovski S3 3-9 I'd trade for one of these in similar condition and in a Mil/Mil configuration.

Hey Scott! Do you take trade in's? :D I'll need to get some rings for one as well.

^^^^^ Nooooo...you need the PST and then another rifle for the Swarovski. Just trying to help a brother out.

You see, there's nothing about that statement that isn't going to get me in trouble. The Mrs. is Very supportive of my "habit", BUT she certainly has her limits. :)

(Although, I'm kind of liking that train of thought.) Hmmmmmm......

I like this scope but I am curious how it stacks up gains the NF 2.5-10 as well as the MK4 3.5-10, I can get the MK4 from Leupold Fed-Mil program for about the same price so I am curious to see the feedback. Going on a 308win, 18in Savage, going to be a target/steel/hunt/fun gun. Weight difference between the 3 is maybe 2 oz at the max and 1 inch length difference.

I have 3 on order for a GAP10, SPR, and a LTR .308. I get the Leupy deal as well but the lighter weight and features I think make this the better scope for what i want. I have a 3.5-10x40 Mk4 and side by side the glass quality looked the same as well as bightness. I think the mark 4 had a slight edge in the field of view dept but it is a bigger objective too.

Vortex also give a military discount but Doug at cameraland NY and Scott at LibertyOptics will hook you up with about the same price if you call them.

If you can swing it, then get both do your own side by side and then sell the one you dont keep. I'll be putting my Leupy and 2 sightron SIII's up for sale soon.

Got it mounted on my SCAR17. Used an ADM Delta to secure it. Initial impression is the glass is really clear for the price point, FFP is great for my fading vision, and it seems really well built. I'll give more opinions once I sight it in. Sorry for the crummy cell phone pic.

I love mine, I went from the 1x4 to the 2.5x10 I find it much better for me than the 1x4. Especially for precise shots out to 200 and beyond. I was going to pick up another, but a car croaking on me has me dumping some glass. I did get a notification that the guys I got mine from got some more in MOA last week day. Looks like they sold 4 since they had 6 when I got the notice . Not sure but when I ordered my first one they had a promo code FKFEINSTEIN http://http://www.3riversprecision.com/vortex-viper-pst-2-5-10x32-ffp-moa.html

I ended up getting one from EuroOptic. It arrived in like 3 days. I tried to get a Bobro extended mount, but they are backordered everywhere I look. I ended up getting an ADM Recon X from SWFA and it should be here Monday or Tuesday. I'll post pics when I get it together.

I have a vortex viper 2.5-10x44 pst mounted on my mega .223 and it's a sweet scope to dog hunt with. I mount my pvs14 behind it and just found out by playin around with it that it has illuminated crosshairs. U can adjust the intensity of the illumination. Sweet lil scope

I love mine! Anyone know if there is a specific CAT tail/Speed lever for it? Or will the standard one Vortex sells work?

Will this scope be "too little" for a M700 .308 rifle for 800 yards? Should I go for something more in the 3-15x range?

Mine is going on an 18" 700 in 308, that should be here in two weeks, that I will use out to 800 yards on occasion but will see most of its use 600 and in. The question of magnification is personal and depends on what you are shooting at and what kind of shooting you are doing. For a field rifle hitting 10"-12" steel at 800 yards this will work all day long. If you're questioning power range and your goal is little tiny groups on a flat range this may not be your scope. The main advantages of this scope are its size and weight. If you get into higher magnification full size scope you tend to pack on the ounces and even up to almost a lb. in some cases. This may or may not matter to you.

I bought this scope and had the lighter rifle built to address the weight and magnification range I wanted based on my experience and use. I found my first rifle was just way to heavy and way to much scope for what I was doing.

Good luck.

which reticle do you guys prefer? i looked at both and cannot make up my mind as to which one i would want to get. and how would you compare it to this?

http://swfa.com/Leupold-3-9x40-VX-R-Patrol-30mm-Riflescope-P49445.aspx

that is the other scope i am currently considering

also, on a wierd side note:

does anyone know the legalities of hunting in oregon or washington with an illuminated reticle in your optic? i know i cannot have any illumination when i am archery hunting for both sight and knocks.

You should be fine in Oregon. Under the General provisions, electronic devices are only mentioned under the Archery section. I use the illuminated reticle on mine, also others use the Burris Eliminator Rangefinding scope on theirs (electronic).

In Washington it looks like you can't have night vision or laser (visible or infrared, except for rangefinders): #15 http://wdfw.wa.gov/help/categories/Hunting/General+Hunting+Rules/

In all honesty, though I'm in love this scope now for my application smallbore silhouette and hunting application, a 3-15 would be more appropriate if you hunt, shoot unsupported too. I use my 6-24 at 24x for prone target shooting. Can't get too much unless mirage. As others would say, it will depend on your application. I have a 1-4 that's great for CQB-100 yards, 2.5-10 for probably 25-500 yards, 6-24 for 100-1000 yards. IMO IMO IMO

Was looking into a NF 2.5-10 until I read this thread. Ordered one today from europtic and it shipped before the end of the day. Hoping it and my last AR parts come in by Friday so I can try it out this weekend.

anyone using this optic on a 5.56 AR15...how much elevation adjustment do you have left after zeroing? does it zero in the middle leaving approx 13 mrad/43 moa elevation adjustment?

I just received mine from cameraland(great to deal with, btw). In all honesty I was really disappointed in my 4-16 pst, mostly glass quality. But since it seemed mostly limited to the 4-16 line. I wanted a lightweight, tactical-based scope for a hunting rifle build and I didn't want to throw a $1500+ scope on a rifle I intend on dragging and banging around. It was between the vortex and the swfa 3-15. Weight was key so the pst won. The illumination was a bonus, too. I haven't mounted it but so far I am quite impressed and I'm sure the glass will suffice for its intended use.

Way too many variables to answer this question. The tolerances on the rifle and mounts all play into where your scope needs to adjust to get a zero. The whole reason turrets are even on scopes, is to make up for rifles and mounts not being perfect. If you're concerned about elevation travel, invest in a Badger Ordnance 22MOA riser rail, and a good set of 30mm rings in a 1" height. Riser rail, 22 MOA | Badger Ordnance OR you could check out some of the 1-piece mounts that have MOA cant built in.

there are too many variables to answer the question of where YOUR scope zeros on YOUR rifle? I would think anyone who has the scope could answer that question.

that said i much appreciate what your getting at.
