He is a good speaker. Some of what he says is valuable. I have issues with accuracy and validity of some of the studies/info/conslusions in his book 'On Killing'.

Agreed - I don't agree with everything he says either, but as you mentioned he does have valuable advice. Most people get a lot out of his lectures, however, people do need to think for themselves and not believe everything they hear. This will be a great lecture and something to try out at least once :)

He is a good speaker. Some of what he says is valuable. I have issues with accuracy and validity of some of the studies/info/conslusions in his book 'On Killing'.

I agree strongly with this. I read "On Killing" years ago and even then I had issue with a lot of what is in the book. Given todays climate, a lot in that book is even more outdated. As it stands, if you took what was valuable out of the book it would be a thick booklet with most of that information being from some of the studies he sited. I am not overly impressed with Grossman, especially since he sites and promotes a known SF poser's work in his latest press releases/pieces.

They certainly are interesting...........if indeed accurate.
My point is that they are not accurate. The main study he uses, to show that almost all soldiers are reluctant to kill, is flawed and its research methods would not pass muster today.

Man has been going to war for thousands of years, if not longer. There's no such thing as 'killology': Stripped down, what he talks about is quite basic and not all that scientific.

He's a good speaker, though.

He spoke at a Tactical Offers conference I attended a ways back and I saw him speak again before I deployed. A lot of what he said got me to think, but upon research a bit was more opinion then backed by solid data. With that said I still encourage anyone who wants to be a "sheepdog" to attend.

His sheepdog theory is also more opinion than fact.

There are not three distinct types of people: Man is not so simple a being as to be only one kind of thing; we are all part sheep, part sheepdog and part wolf.

If the events of the past five thousand years had proved otherwise we would have to dismiss most religions and ignore the history of western philosophy.

Oh, I understood your point.............................I'm not qualified render an opinion in any position (other than personal experience) so I cannot agree or disagree with you. I'm just remarking that his position that "mans inherent nature of being reluctant to kill is being changed in our children due to the desensitizing effects of media influences (video games, hollywood, social media, etc.)" is something to ponder on, nothing more nor less.

The bottom line is he has NO actual combat experience, hasn't killed anyone and all he espouses is based on some very old and questionable studies and or his opinion. We are at a point in time where we have more vets that have actual real world combat experience and have killed other human beings than any other point in time with the civil war probably being the closest of all the wars we as a nation have been in. He is well spoken but IMO he has no basis in modern combat (post Vietnam war) to speak from a position of authority. This is compounded by the fact that he endorses and uses false information from a known fraud as supporting documentation to support his current tour. In all honesty, you could get a more realistic and accurate understanding on combat and killing from a straight leg Infantry private just back from from a deployment. My advise, save your money and pass on listening to what Grossman has to say, it's either outdated and or proven factually inaccurate information.
