I have been reading on the site for awhile now but I hope I can get some input on an optic. I'm not military or LEO but I believe in the buy once, cry once philosophy. I've always taken that thought with my drag racing a and it's served me well . Anyway I have an LWRC REPR with a 20"barrel. I have been researching different optics. I have narrowed it down to the Leupold Mk 6 3-18 x 44 or the Nightforce 3.5-15 x 50. Both are FFP with the H58 reticle. I will be mounting it with a LaRue QD mount. I have regular access to a 300 yard range and can get
fairly easy out to 500 yards at my farm. I still want the ability with my equipment to be able to stretch out to farther ranges accurately. Money isn't a factor in these two choices. So I would appreciate your input. I haven't found any real negatives on either of these scopes. All opinions are welcome. I'm keeping an open mind.

Get the NightForce NXS F1. Scratch the idea of getting a Larue mount because it's not optimal for precision work. Get a Spuhr or if you don't mind waiting 8 weeks and want a QD mount, get a GDI.

oh, and welcome to the Hide!

Plus one for the Nightforce! Get the solid scope mount they make , it works perfect for the AR Platform. Why settle on the 3.5-15x why not the BEAST! By Nightforce? I have two of the 5.5-22x50 in MOAR reticle. I love them

Be sure to take the Weight into account. If not carrying a long ways, then this is not as critical. Vortex razor has an excellent reticle and lots of features. Plus a killer warranty to cover it. March is another option you can look at that is in the lighter weight category. They are new here but catching on. They are on sale right now as well. A thread is up right now on the sale. FFP vs SFP is the best place to start and branch out from there.

Many options available. If price not a big factor, FFP easier to use to range unknown distances. Also once you're into LR shooting 500 yards does not seem that far and you'll probably will want to stretch it out further. Would recommend 22-25X top end magnification. You can always dial down if needed. Could also use on other rifle platforms in the future. Very few shooters only have a single rifle. Nightforce, March, Bushnell and many others to choose from. It's always nice to be able handle scopes before you buy, but usually not possible. Definitely get matching reticle and turrets-mil/mil vs MOA/MOA. Best to read the Optics Selection Stichy at the top of this section here SEVERAL times and it should help you narrow down the choices to fit your specific needs. As you shoot more, it's much easier to appreciate the subtle differences in many available options. Good Luck!
