what 338 pills for long range hunting and gongs?

After some recommendations for projectiles of .338 for hunting to 800 and gongs to 1200ish.

Im limited to 250gr pills due to my twist and achievable velocities. Quickload tells me im.likely to see about 2900 with a 250gr pill and a little over 3000 for a 225gr accurately.

Im limited somewhat on choice as I won't be able to run Berger tacticals with magazine feed. Projectiles such as the accubonds, sst, smk ect will all be able to the set at the lands if needed.

So what pills would you recommend for my application? Im happy to run 2 different loads or just a single load. After success or failure stories or any info on any pills that might help in my development.

Rifle is basically a 338-375ruger with a slightly modified/larger case and will have a 28" ss heavy Palma fluted barrel and 4-30 Bushnell in DNZ beast reapers with a total of 40moa in the mounts half to the rail and half the rings all sitting in a choate tactical adjustable custom inlet for my howa LA as I had it laying around and they don't do a adjustable LA for my action.

I shoot the 250s in my 1:12" TRG-42 and use the SMKs, Lapua LockBase and Scenars and finally, the Berger OTM Hybrids.

They all work well for target shooting.

I'm not a hunter, but I have some 180gr/200gr Nosler BTs and some 225gr Hornady SSTs, that are more for hunting.

I am seriously considering the 225 sst as they seem to be available readily here for hunting. Would like to know how they perform on game.

Anyone using any of the target HPBT pills for hunting and what results did you get?

I've shot coyotes and possums with a Barnes TSX 210gr @3200fps(lapua). It just zips right through them. The majority of 338 bullets are made for penetrating large game. I have some discontinued 200gr nosler ballistic tips I think might open up a little more. What type of game are you wanting to hunt with it?

I would just use the Sierra 215 & 250 soft point boat tail rounds. Good BC, plenty of energy and there cheap!
