Hunting & Fishing Fishing trip in Mexico

I don't know...bit of a language barrier...they were trying to "hard sell" the mounts after the trip....we had a blast though, great trip!

+1 on the the catch and release. Awesome fun catching but no good eating. Curious what they did with fish when you were done with pics?

Made tacos amigo! Nice sails by the way, didn't mean to be a Debbie Downer but I never understand why some people keep the trophy fish that aren't worth a crap to eat. I understand the language deal so I am not putting that on you. The fishing guides do whatever they want down in mexico.

I don't know what they did with them.

Yeah, I have to plead ignorance on that one, we were honestly thinking we could eat them and if nothing else just have some filets freeze dried and sent home...didn't know that they were not edible. They were trying to get us to pony up several grand per fish to have them mounted...to be honest if the price would have been reasonable, I was going to "go-in" with my uncle so he could get one mounted as a momento of the trip, but they were trying to ass rape us.

Things got a little heated during our "negotiation" They had told my uncle one price and his understanding was that was for all three fish that were kept, then they said no, that was a "per fish" price, we talked to a few others from some other boats who had a similar experience...I think they intentionally let the language barrier get in the way, keep them, then try to pressure you in to the mounts....we had a blast right up until the end and they started their sales pitch, drank "mucho-cervesas" and caught some nice fish...and got an education on "sail fish" :)

Very cool, thanks for posting. The couple of times I've been down in Cancun and Cozumel I always inquired about fishing, which kind of takes second fiddle to all of the major diving activity that the area is famous for. My questions were always met with shrugs and they made it sound like most of the fisheries around that area were over fished and depleted. But that can be said for most of the area's that used to be hot.
