match vs standard primers

I have read that many people cannot tell any notable difference in the Federal 210 or 210M primers. Is it the same case in the CCI's? I am wondering because I have been wanting to try some CCI's in my load to see what it does to my ES as Im not entirely happy with the results I am getting from Fed 210m's. I can get the standard CCI's but cannot locate any CCI BR primers. I want to keep from wasting my components if the standards are not in the same league as the BR's.

Thanks

I actually keep a stock of all 4. The 25-06 liked federal best and federal match even better. My 300RUM prefers federal magnum over cci as well but the 30-06 prefers cci standard over BR. I've tried pretty much everything federal and cci in all my rifles and found differing results with each one.
As I stated above, it's usually a minimal difference with the exception being the 25-06, it cut my ES in half. I thiink there are a bunch of other things that will more drastically effect ES such as consistent neck tension and flash holes. I don't normally screw around with changing primers until late in load development chasing that last little bit of consistency.
In your case, it might be worth trying CCI over Federal but not until your dead positive your neck tension is consistent and have done some brass prep (flash holes, primer pockets, consistent trim and chamfer, etc.)

I tried looking for the articles on this very subject but was unable to find anything. Back around 20 years ago there were articles on this very subject in either Gun Test Mag or Guns & Ammo etc. with a finding that the flash was the same or very close between the two, just match was more consistent. What I recall was the match primes giving a more consistent ignition than the standard primers. However, I don't recall what defined a "match" primer. My guess is consistency...you got a select group per batch. I bet if you were to weigh primers and group accordingly, you'll get the same result

I had heard that match primers were hand filled and inspected. I wonder if that's still the case. If I recall correctly, that was the only real difference that made them more consistent.

thats what I have read also.

I have heard that federals are a little "hotter" than the CCI's too. Can anyone confirm this?

go look for primer flash pictures and you'll see the differences

Primer Flash Test Photos

damn! that was pretty telling photos. im not sure i think the giant explosion of some of these is better then the small explosion. i assume consistency is key here but i would think a good complete burn is optimum. to me it looks like the federal 210m and the winny primers are close in their respective ignition flash and its in the middle of the pack for all listed. guess i will stick with that.

I thought I read somewhere that both regular and match were the same, the match primers just went through more QC. :)
