any else shooting these in there 1 in 12 twist barrels ?

I am getting .5 groups at 100 yards and at 400 yards @ under MOA

but at 600 there all over the place .

velocity is within 15 FPS with my loads

should I just go down to 168 to see if they will stabilize ?

hers is a group at 100 yards

If the 178s are stabilizing out to 400 why would they not stabilize another 200yds? Could it be wind thats throwing them off? How large are the 600yd groups? Yeah, I never shot the 178AMAXs but did shoot the 168s out to 600last Aug, held a 4.7" group, would like to give the 178s a try though, if I could find some, my SPSS is a 12 twist of course.

When I test loads I test them at 100 and 300 yards. If a load works well at both ranges i have never had one not continue to work out to 1000+. Once you start getting to 600 yards you really need to watch the wind and your fundamentals. I am betting that is what is throwing off the group and not the ballistics of the round.

+1 for emphasis. Not that you are a bad shooter, but the difficulty of keeping groups at range doesnt increase in a linear fashion. Seems more like shots get exponentially harder. When you say "all over the place" is vertical or horizontal dispersion?

Awesome Group at 100 by the way!

Thinking now the wind was at my 4:00
I believe now it my shooting ! I will go back out this weekend and verify at 200 then 400 then 600 to make sure my dope is correct .

I have shot my 300 ultra to 1000 but different gun weights 13 lbs

My 1:12 stock remington loves them. Sub moa at 100, 300 and 600. It's the only bullet I use in midrange F class.

300yds- The wind can start to affect them at this range slightly. At 600 it can make them dance!

I just started using this bullet in my Remington 700 Tactical Rifle with 12 twist Pac-Nor 3 grove Supermatch barrel. Shoots really well at 100, 200 and 600 yards.

Here's my 10 shot group at 110 yards during load development.

10 shot at 200 yards

Here's the result of my 20 shot group at our Local 600 yards Zombie Night shoot last November. I fired just one shot at the 8"circle in the forehead just to make sure the Zombie is dead;) The shot won the match for me.

I shot a 5 round group of .65 at 200 yards once with a Rem tactical...at 1000 they are all over the place

*golf clap*

Nice! I am indeed jealous...

I am shooting a 20" barrel and loading 42.8 grains of RL 15 velocity 2510
close to max in my gun .
looks like most guys are using varget , what kind of velocity's could I expect from varget ? in a 20"tube
I am more certain now my all over the place statement was no the correct term to used, I hit a man sized target 5 out of 10 times groups where about 12"

I can switch between the 175 SMK and the 178 Amax without any accuracy difference at 600, 44gr of varget in a win case and a 1-12 twist 25 inch krieger. I shot a 10 rd 4 inch group at 600 shooting an SMK followed by an Amax and so on.
hope this helps.
