Hello, I'm looking to build a tactical 6.5x47 on an AICS. Just don't know what action to get. Been looking at a BAT VRPIC or a Borden Rimrock? Don't know what to get? It won't be rolling round in the dirt, i will be looking after it. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your advice. Phil

I have heard some really good things about the new Bat Tactical repeaters. I would get one myself if I had an extra 1500 laying around.

If you want to use an AICS, why not just buy a factory Accuracy International AE Mark III???

That's what I'd do. If you've got the AICS already, just sell it and put the money toward an AE.

The "best" action is relative to the person you're asking. There are many actions that are excellent....
I agree with the post above.....if you like the ACIS stock, go with a complete AI build.

Well if he's building a 6.5x47 the AIAE might not be the best choice if he's running that cartridge to it's full potential. Since the 47 has a small rifle primer, it benefits from having a bushed firing pin. My understanding is the AIAE/AW cannot be bushed and can cause premature primer failures.

I can get a better action to suit the 6.5x47. And a better barrel. And a custom action are made to tighter tolerances. AE's are good but it's a factory rifle and I would like something special.

Thats like asking if shaved is better than trimmed...

I have a 308 on Bat VRPIC action and a 223 in Borden Rimrock. Both repeater. Its hard choose which is best. They are very good actions...

Which I would advise a different cartridge. The 6.5x47 doesn't offer anything the 6.5 CM or .260 doesn't.

What barrels are "better" than the Bartleins?

What "custom" action has "tighter" tolerances than an Accuracy International? In what way do you mean "tighter"? Do you mean everything is "snug" or do you mean there is little variance?

AIs tolerances are so "tight" you can pull the barrel off of one and screw it on another and it will headspace the same. Hard to beat that.

That's not entirely true. Strictly based on performance they are all really similar, but if we are talking about a short action then the 6.5x47 has a much greater ability to chase the lands as the throat wears and still fit an in a magazine.

For one, whether or not you'll need to chase lands is dependent on the chamber. IIRC, the x47 is 1.851" from head to mouth and the CM is 1.920"

I believe the spec max COAL for the Lapua is 2.80" and the 6.5 CM is 2.82".

Regardless, there's no reason to be chasing lands with the excellent 140 gr Berger Hybrid or Sierra 142 gr Matchking.

I see no clarification on the intended use.

SO, I will make a couple of suggestions.

I have used many of the custom actions as well as most of the standard ones.

IF for a tactical type rough and tumble action, it is tough to beat a Surgeon! All the good features a loose in the right spots and tight in the right spots. The integral lug and integral top rail are really great features. Well thought out action and nice people to deal with.

If accuracy is the only object, ie FClass or paper punching, a Borden is among the best. Jim is an accuracy nut.
