Took the good advice here and traded up in glass. I haven't received it yet but it's a Vortex HS 4-16x50 FFP. It has an exposed elevation turret, capped windage and the XLR reticle which looks similar to the EBR-2B, although the XLR has larger features in most areas of the reticle. I guess it's because this scope is not illuminated so it will stand out a bit better in dim light.

Any have one of these?

Nope, but I know the PST was a pretty solid optic when I had one. I don't see why this would be a bad option, based on that. I like Vortex and have had really good luck with their products. So I'd say you'd be ok, unless you trade a NF or USO for it.

I just bought the same scope but the 6-24 model, I'm very happy with it but wont get to shoot with it till this weekend. It doesn't seem like it's a practical hunting scope but I didn't buy it to be. I can see a need for it to be illuminated especially on lower powers.

I'm hoping that mine will work well as a hunting scope. 4x should be perfect until I get up in the shooting house.

Give a report on the glass on 16 power when you get it. Looking to find out if it is reasonably clear. I am needing one for Hunting but yet I will shoot Steel out to 1200 and will prob have it on max power then. I just think the 6 x 24 will not have enough field of view on 6 power for hunting or I would prob get it.

Will do. If it's anything like my other original Vipers, it will be very good at 16x.

I played with those at sportsmans warehouse when I was helping my moms boyfriend buy a scope. We went in for a PST, but it was neat seeing the higher end HS stuff with almost the same features. Still stuck with a PST for the zero stop, but glass looked very close indoors.

The HS has zero stop

This is just personal preference but I'd go with 6-24 power. I had the same decision u r having, with the thought the lower power is better for hunting. The difference between 4 and 6 power is 10 feet of view at 100 yards, u still get 17 field of view with 6 power, which is more than enough to get the job done. I personally don't find the xlr reticle that practical cause its so small till u get to 8 power but it doesn't start to shine till 12 power in my opinion. Maybe the 4-16 power is different. I'd rather have 8x time more power on the high end and lose 2 on the low end. Even though its 1/2 moa vertical adjustment I view this as a target scope over something I'd put on a designated hunting rig. I guess when u r looking for a one scope does everything u have to make some sacrifices but 8 high end power > 2 lower end + field of view. Also the scope is designated to be a hunting scope if u r shooting past 500 yards IMO, you have plenty of field of view then.
