General 5.56/7.62 powder burn rates (upper bands are medium burn rates, slower powders towards the bottom) -- adjust accordingly for bullet weights and if using in autoloaders:

Here is a link to powders by relative burn rate. They also have it as a pdf down load so you can print it on one sheet. Looks like powders from about #86 to about #110 should work for .223/.308. Find the powders in a range and then look up the load data for your bullet weight.

Normally TAC for 55s and plinking 5.56; Varget and VV N135 and N540 for competition 5.56; Varget and 4064 for 168s and 175s.

These days (for plinking ammo) whatever I can find -- Norma 202, 2495. Power Pro 2000 is supposed to be excellent for heavier bullets, and 8208 is supposed to be nice as well.

I know a ton of highpower shooters who use RL15 with 77gr SMKs with great success. I've found that Benchmark works best for me with 60gr vmax .224 bullets.

See AR comp on their web site... Lick'd up an 8# jug, as a back up powder, when I'm all out of varget

RL-15 for 75 and 77's in the .223 and RL-15 for 168 / 175 in .308. Charge wt. in both is within tenths of Varget charge wts.

RL-15 has been the standard powder used by Lake City for the M118LR Match ammo for many years now, and among highpower Service Rifle shooters, they're pretty evenly split between RL-15 and Varget for use in the 223 with 77-82 grain bullets.

No worries, you're on solid ground here.

that's good info.... I picked up 2lb of RL15 and i'll give it a shot

    2000MR, with ease.

In my .308, 1:12, with Federal Match equivalent reloads...
    168 SMKs like IMR4064
175 SMKs like RL-15 better than Varget and IMR4064.
The RL-15 and Varget foulings are a hell of a lot harder to clean than that of IMR4064. The carbon is stubborn as heck! If you find your rifle and loads prefer the IMR powders, go with them is my opinion, especially if you don't like using a brush in your bore.

Been using AR-Comp for 77gr smk's and 175's. Both rounds were getting up to 2550fps before pressure signs. I got ahold of a 8# jug of CFE to try out, hopefully I can safely squeeze out some more speed.
A buddy of mine loaded 168gr smk's with 3031 and was consistently in the 2750fps range out of a 20" AR. I picked up a pound of that to try also.

    What length on your 308?

my LMT MWS is a 20" CL. I tried RE15 for the first time today and reloaded it to my pet varget lower node of 40.5grns. I'll give the RE15 some more load development next time I hit the range. I was also using a new bullet i've never used before 165gr smk's bthp (which has a really funky ogive secant)... Not sure what in the hell the top 3 groups are doing, but the bottom 3 groups are actually not too bad at 100yards...... THEN, I used the rounds of what I had left in my ammo box out to 300yards and did this killer group!! works out to friggen .648moa!! I think I might have been just smoking some crack on the top 3 groups @ 100yards I'm thinking.

15 is a great powder for the two. I have been shooting 17 in 308 with 175-185 pills for 3 months because I couldn't get any 15, H4895, or varget. It is accurate, but temp sensitive. It's also too slow for 5.56.

I have been using AR-Comp in 223AI with 75gr A Max and with 308 175gr SMK and I am getting great results. I don't know the speed but I am getting great groups.
