My APA built for my daughter

Awhile back I was given a beat up 7mm Rem Mag from my father in law. I decided that I should have it cleaned up so that I could someday give it to my daughter as she has a very close relationship with her Grandpa.

So I called Jered at APA and explained to him what I was doing. Originally I was going to have it suppressed to reduce recoil for my daughter to be able to shoot in a couple years. She's 9yrs old now and a touch over 60lbs so a 7mm Mag might be a bit rough. Jered suggested I go with his Little Jimmy brake telling me that she would have no problem shooting it with that brake.

I picked up a AICS 2.0 stock for it as well. My daughter shoots the AR platform very well so with some Viper Skins and the adjustable LOP on the AICS, I figured this would fit her now and be able to grow with her.

So after talking with Jered we decided to go with the following build:

Trued 700 action with Badger bolt knob
#7 Broughton Barrel finished at 26" with a Little Jimmy brake
Badger 20 moa rail
Tuned Rem Trigger
AICS stock with Viper Skins bedded

The barrel was chambered for the 180 Bergers.

Well I got the gun back last month and first I will comment that the fit and finish is perfect. The trigger is amazing measuring at just under 2.5lbs.

I took it out today to do some sight it and brake in for the first time. I will say right off that I am not in anyway recoil sensitive but the first shot scared the crap out of me. There was so little recoil that on the first shot my mind immediately thought something was wrong. It was just a knee jerk reaction of this isn't right, this gun should have more recoil. APA knows how to build a rifle and make a brake. I now have future plans for another rifle from them.

I wasn't able to do as much shooting as I like as I had to pick my kiddo up from school but I think this rifle will work well for her when I'm not stealing it.

That's an awesome build for anyone, but even cooler that it's for your daughter. My own girls shoot, too and my oldest (just turned 11) is starting to press me for something with a little more reach/precision than the M4 she usually shoots. I hope that I can do something similar in the near future. Good on you!

Can you tell us how you convinced the wife to build a custom rifle for your 9 year old daughter? I'd love to you that approach!!

It's better to ask for forgiveness then permission and yes this rifle really is for my daughter. I bought her a Benchmade Sentinal before she was even born. This gun has sentimental value. Now I'm not saying I won't shoot it as well.

I just saw this. I'm glad everything worked out the way you wanted and I hope she shows you how to run it.
I just bout my first barrel for Hannah and she isn't even 4 months old so I'm on the same page with ya.
