I bought a Mega MaTen ambi lower and upper for a build. I took her out to the range and loaded 1round to function test her. After I fired the shot the bolt catch did not lock the bolt back. I tried to lock the bolt back manually but that did not work. I tried another bolt latch and that did not work. Any ideas? All parts are brand new.
Thanks.

Will the bolt go back past the catch at all? What kind of buffer did you put in?

What bolt catch(es) did you use/try?

There have been issues with Megas not functioning properly with some mfgs components (can't recall which off hand...may have been PSA, JP, and perhaps others but don't hold me to those specifically).

With the upper off the lower and you manually operating the catch...does it appear to be moving freely without binding up, as well as moving up enough to properly engage the bolt?

Any pics?

I've built two MATEN's and working on a third.
I used DPMS Bolt catch (available from Rainier, Brownell's, Midway and probably others) without any problem.
If your MATEN is Armalite based then I am not sure or not on what the correct part is.

I am using the bolt catch that came with the lower from Mega. It appears everything is moving freely. I just spoke to a Mega Arm tech and he suggested filing the bolt catch rod down a little to see if that helps add a little more travel for the catch. I will keep you guys informed. Thanks

Is the gas block properly aligned? What ammo were you using for the test?

I filed the catch pin down as suggested by Mega. Bolt catch just needed a little more travel to hold. I wouldn't have thought of this. Thanks for the suggestions guys. All is good now.

Huh...well that's a new one to file away in the old DIY fix file. I wouldn't have gone there either, but if it got the job done and didn't compromise the integrity/strength of the pin (not sure how much you had to remove) then so be it. Glad you got her running (or catching as that was the case)! ;)

what had happened was a combo of buffer, buffer tube and spring I bet. I had combos where if I changed the spring from the tubs flatwire to a stock dpms 308 carbine spring, it locked. or I went from one stock that's supposed to be carbine spec and It all locks back, but swap in a UBR and no go. I almost used a file too, lol. I was frustrated
