Kicking Ass Somewhere
I am building a Savage 300 WM longish range rifle, I already have the Sav 111, I have a Criterion bull barrel on order from Jim at NSS, a Choate Tactical stock with CDI bottom metal already here, took the gun out yesterday and fired a box of 180 through it. Well it beat the hell out of me with that skinny barrel on it. I am now thinking about putting a brake on the bull barrel, has anyone done this and how much did it help. I have a brake on my 300 wsm Model 70, installed by Dennis n Va from this site, it reduced the recoil to a bit less than a 308 and shoots sub moa easily, just wondering if the benefit of a brake on a bull barrel will be the same or just leave it as a bull only set up? Appreciate any pics if anyone has done this set up already and any thoughts, ideas.

I have a PWS brake on my 300. Its shooys softer than my 308. Easy to sit through 100 plus range sessions. Give the "bastard" brakes a look. I alao have a clamp on R&D brake

I just had a Holland Radial Brake installed on my dad's light weight sporter 300WM and its easy to spot shots even at close range (100y). I've attached a couple pictures of them. They are great for not being annoying to those around you in my opinion. I just got off the firing line with 4 of us all having them installed and we had a great time at class. No real bad shock wave out the sides and no dust kicked up at all. I always have Darrel install them himself but thats mainly because he's only a couple hours down the road from me. I always get my gun back with the brake threaded on timed perfectly and the profile turned down to match my barrel profile perfectly. Also he'll often install them while I wait if I make an appointment. I have them on guns with bull barrels and with sporter barrels and honestly don't think I'll ever forgo this upgrade on any rifle I own from now until eternity. Its not how hard it kicks me its how easy it is to spot impacts for follow up shots. These brakes are WAY more effective than my Thunderbeast 30P-1 suppressor at keeping the gun on target.

I put a break on my .300 wm Remington Sendero and it was night and day. I didn't enjoy shooting it before the brake and frankly couldn't shoot it very well consistently. Robert Gradous has it right now and is putting a heavier barrel on it (M24) and Little Bastard brake that he suggested.

I have a Browning factory BOSS brake on my .300 win mag Stainless Stalker A-Bolt and it does noticably lessen the recoil. Finding the best brake for recoil reduction may take some research. Some brakes are MUCH better than others but also they are usually the loudest.

(The Browning BOSS system is a micrometer-style muzzle weighting system for getting the best harmonics (and thus, accuracy) from a given load.)
