Here are a couple free float tubes I made out of filament wound carbon fiber tubing. I used 1.875" O.D. which was $32 I think, and I added a $9 Pic rail on top of the lefty.
It was pretty simple really. I just used scrap aluminum to turn out a simple barrel nut. Then I install it so see where it will index, remove, and drill a single hole for the gas tube. I also turn a simple little knurled cap for the forward end to keep the carbon fiber from chipping. With the tube indexed on the barrel nut, I just drill a hole pattern through the tube and into the barrel nut, tap them 8-32, and use button head torx's to secure it.
One is a left hand .300 BLK with a 16" SS bbl, which has only had 3 rounds through it since Im not left handed, and have no desire to shoot it unsuppressed. But, I happened to have the upper laying around.
The other is a 7" .300 BLK on a LAR side charge upper with a permanently attached shroud underneath the handgaurd, but it's a tight enough fit that it looks like a long hg. The Cyclone stuck out about an inch.
