REGISTRATION OPEN: Please see:

Competitions | BLACK HAT TRAINING CORPS

For full information.

We are gearing up for our next long range match guys. It will have lots of UKD work, problem solving challenges, and will test several skill sets together.

Looking forward to having you on board. I'm not going to kill you guys with PT this time.

I'm in despite the 90% chance of little grey circles and meth heads.

I'd plead for no more , but I'm sure Freddy would just substitute them with crack heads and stars.

edit... how about a far to near stage..

start with one target at 500 yards or plus then transition to squishy balls at extreme close range 25, 50, and 75????

Well, you keep shooting what is essentially a battle rifle in sniper matches and doing well with it but for the TARGET IDENTIFICATION stages.... ;-) The magnification isn't about shooting, it's just a tool for target ID. Take the next two short steps up and you arrive at a DMR.

Vortex Optics - Viper PST 2.5-10x44 EBR-1 MRAD

And the GG&G Bipod should be just fine. ;-)

Without a doubt you will be serious competition to guys with five times the gun. You really have no need for a bolt gun at this point.

Any word on this match? Have not got anything since about 9 of us registered. Looking forward to shooting it but just want confirmation we are all registered before making travel arrangements and plans.
Thanks

Spoke to Freddy last week about this match and I am almost 100% sure this is a go. He still had a couple spots available at that time. He is just a little slow on the asking for money part of it.

Any slots left open for this match? Cost? Round count?

Thanks - Bryan

I don't mean to speak on behalf of the match director but...

The information you are looking for is in the link in the OP. I normally take 100 rnds of ammo but rarely use more than 65-70. Of course, the more first round hits you make the less you will use. :) The form is still live so that USUALLY means that there is still spots.

The Capn'

The match is on, everyone who registered is on the roster, and at this point I am asking people to just bring cash to the match please.

I have a couple spots left as of 5/29.

I think I just talked myself into signing up for this. See you all there.

Course of Fire is ready!

For this match, I have worked in more "scenario based" stages that tie into real-world analogs. There are still some of the familiar drills in there that press skill sets in the usual way, but where possible I tended to connect stages to a situation.

See you guys up there. We will be setting up on Friday. You will be permitted to check zero at 100/200Y until 3:30pm. If you show up on the range after that you will have achieved an unfair competitive advantage by viewing the targets. Unfortunately there is no remedy available for this other than to issue a DQ, so please don't put us in that position. The staff's time to relax and shoot a little is Friday. Please give us the courtesy of some space.

Everybody drive safe. We do plan to have dinner at JP Edwards in L'town, probably around 7pm.

Congrats to Josh, whose CBS shot was the dead center-est of the match.

Fantastic shooting by the entire crew. It wasn't an easy course of fire. Some guys took their score sheets home so I can't post the individual stage scores.

Shooters were provided targets sizes on a diagram along with a warning - If they asked staff for target sizes during the match, they would be cheerfully provided, but their score would be docked 50 points per question. BHTC thanks the shooters for leaving the staff alone to conduct their important work of fairly scoring and prosecuting the match. ;-)

The tableaus:

CBS - 754Y - Stalk in on hands/knees, get to a rotten stump and engage the VC general (IDPA target with a coolie hat).

Enemy Patrol - 700, 672, 640, 605Y - An enemy patrol has taken the lazy route and has chosen to walk in the open rather than stay in the treeline.

Mortar Team - 1054Y - They believe themselves to be out of range. Prove them wrong.

Close range KYL. 2 to 1MOA targets engaged at 25Y

Shape Shifter - 100Y - Shooters shown three specific shapes on a randomly placed target. Study, fix, engage. Cannot return to the observation table once they step away.

DIRTY VC - 754Y - The VC is back! You cannot see him over the rice crop, and must use a captured piece of equipment to make the shot (rickety tripod made out of green bamboo).

Sniper Team - 678Y - A sniper team is concealed in the woods. Targets were well camouflaged. Find, and engage. Ring the range buzzer every time you miss (crowd goes "awwwwww!")

Holdover Drill - 200, 300, 410, 500Y, 495Y - No knob adjustments, 2:00 time limit. Mostly small targets on this one.

Urban Hide SBU - US forces are taking fire from a given rooftop. Your location only has a horizontal slit. Engage the target through that opening. No first round hits on this one. Fire adjustment was available at a cost of 50% of the shooter's final stage score.

Sniper vs. Sniper - Shooters are paired up randomly and assigned a target. Older shooter chooses how it will be shot (e.g. "sitting, no sling") Both shooters fire. If one misses, he has lost the contest. If they both miss, the younger shooter gets the call next. Miss three times and you both lose. Hit three times and you both lose (didn't choose difficult enough shots). Those who won got matched with another shooter who also won. The defeated also got another chance against the defeated.

Thank you all for coming out, and I hope everyone had a great time. Let us know what you enjoyed. We want these to be challenging and enjoyable.

Freddy, Mike and Chris,
Thanks for another great shoot. Nice theme to it, that added to the day. Josh, and Sean M rocked the course and the rest of us scrambled along behind. Outstanding shooting!
Shrek

Freddy, Mike and Chris,
Another enjoyable and challenging COF with a great theme this time around. Great to see some familiar faces as well as meet some new ones. I am looking forward to my next trip up to the mountain.

I want to thank Manners Composite Stocks for their generous donation to the prize table.

Also, thanks a lot to Hawk Hill Customs for putting up a custom rifle barrel. Top quality stuff from Shawn down there.

And thanks to Sierra for a copy of their ballistics software.

Here's the bear (well, the bear ass) that we had to stop shooting for a couple times. The guys from out of town can now tell the story of how they survived the bear attack. hahaha Excuse the photography. Cell phone through a spotty with not a lot of time to spare. He's under the tree on the left.

And here's the coolie hat the VC general and the apache were wearing. I traced a trajectory with a cleaning rod. He was definitely sweating that shot.

Thank you, guys, the match was a TON of fun and each of the "tableaus" brought a different skillset both in shooting and your ability to problem-solve... I'm glad to say that I finally connected on this one. This match is no longer my perpetual "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" event.

Here's a snapshot of the top 5

Looking forward to what josh has planned for the summer series match this month.

+1

I heard he put a dozen 18B's from SFSC thru the match stages and near 1/2 washed out due to fatigue, lack of skill, and/or some combo of both :)

Despite this, I'm looking forward to experiencing his madness up close.
