Latest G&A showcases this series of rifles as "more affordable AR's" on it's latest cover.

I plan to watch this develoment rather closely.

Re: Mossberg MMR?

A customer at the shop was asking about these yesterday. Poking around, it's hard to come up with any meaningful specs on these. I like the low-profile forend they've got on them. It looks like it's going to be much easier on the hands than some larger around floating tubes like YHM. I also like that they put the oversized charging handle, trigger guard, ergo grip, and that they deleted the forward assist.

In the description, they don't mention that the barrels are chrome-lined, only "carbon steel"(probably means something like 4140 and not B-11595E). They also don't mention things like:

1) Is the bolt: shot peened, mpi and hpt inspected. upgraded with the black extractor insert. m-16 style or ar-15 style. properly staked on the gas key.

2) Is the gas block: parked under it? staked on?

3) is the lower: 1.14? staked on the castle nut? m4 feed ramps? complete with heavy buffer?

I'm having a hard time coming across anything that would answer these. At the price point they're suggesting for the mmr, i'm wondering why everyone wouldn't just get a spikes tactical instead with a little peace of mind? That or just build up a BCM on the cheap?(assuming you could actually order them from somewhere...lolz).

It is nice to have yet another big name tossing a DI AR into the mix. It'll help desensitize the public to ar-type rifles and remove the black rifle stigma. Hopefully, it will bring down the prices on their competing rifles like the s&w, ruger, remmy/bushmaster and other 1/9 roughly milspec things that shouldn't cost as much as they do.

Re: Mossberg MMR?

I think they are going to sell a heckuva lot of rifles.

The big gap in the Savage line is the lack of a C/F semi. This could be the square peg that fills that square hole.

All those refinements make sense; and I took a look at the Spikes' offering. It looks quite nice at a quite nice price.

Folks are going to have to make value judgements, and if the Mossie MMR turns out reliable, it's not a bad choice.

As I said, I will be watching this development very closely.

PS To paraphrase Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates..., "Savvy Mossie?"

Re: Mossberg MMR?

I made some effort to order one of these back in late September, but my gun store was unable to locate any with his suppliers. Same-Same for the MVP. My own web searches have utterly failed to find a seller who actually has any in stock.

At this point, I'm considering the the G&A aricle to be jumping the gun, Olympic Class, and if anyone asks me, I think these objects are purest vaporware.

My guess, Mossberg is handling orders for deer slug guns and other shotties first, then maybe doing this stuff after the rush for deer guns is past.

Damned disppointing.

Maybe in time for Christmas?

Re: Mossberg MMR?

I don't currently have any Mossberg firearms of my own but the MMR and MVP have some appealing features, the prices look right, and some family members have Mossy shotguns and like them. They seem to have adopted some of the Savage design features that have made me a Savage fan.

I'm hopeful these products will become more available, and soon.

Re: Mossberg MMR?

The Stainless bull barrel on my 24" AR was made Mossberg. It shoots better than me. The finish is very good, the bore is clean with a nice clean crown. The chamber is clean aswell. I also own an 835 12ga. that functions flawlessly. Fit and finish on it is very good, even the mossy oak camo is thorough.

THANKS FOR THE INPUT, GREG. We "talked ", late , last year, about the Stag 6, which is why I bought one. I've seen the new Mossberg, in the "adds. and mags" Thanks for the positive feedback. The price point, is well below the last 5r I bought, in 223.
My interest for the MMR was sublimated into the purchase of a Stag Arms Model 6 Super Varminter going on a year ago. It has met and surpassed all my wishes for a tack driving LR AR. Just Stellar!

I also acquired a Mossberg MVP Predator shortly thereafter, but only finally got out to zero and final evaluate it as of yesterday.

It is the Predator model, not the Varmint model I had (still?) covet(ed). It has a shorter (20" vs 24"), slimmer barrel, the practical sporter laminated stock bears a somewhat lower comb, and it's altogether a good bit lighter and more wieldy. I entered this particular evaluation with mixed expectations.

It has a 1:9" twist bore and processes 75gr PPU Match respectably (3MOA off bench/bipod) at 200yd on a quite windy/switchy day, and gets down to brass tacks with my 75gr HDY/23.5gr Varget AR Match loads. In the wind, with no effort to employ any wind skills, it held the 4 ring or better on the Odessa Club's FV-200 target at the proper distance. The scope is my by now ubiquitous Tasco 6-24x42 Varmint/Target Mil-Dot.

In all, it's a really pleasant surprise from a semi-sporter rifle and barrel. It accepted an eclectic array of AR magazines with no signs of distress. All Pro's, there are no Con's in sight.

I own 2 MMR AR15s in .223 and would shoot it against any other AR15.
My handloads are right at .600" @ 100 yds. out of each AR & I have no problem smacking the steel from 100- 700 yards
Fit & function are tight.
One is put up and the other is used w/my D740 NV scope for coyotes.
I did put a JP trigger spring kit in them and my pull is at 3.5Lbs as like all other standard AR15s the stock trigger is heavy as a bulldozer.
The coyote in the pic was dropped at 247 yards downhill w/a 4-16x44 Centerpoint scope.

I don't want to give the impression my MVP Predator will shoot with my F Open match rifles. It was windy, gusty, swirly, and I was very happy to get 1.5-2MOA at 200yd. It may do better in the calm, but I have yet to prove so. Even so, I expected I was going to like this rifle, and that part is certainly true.

This is todays 400 yard steel w/one of my MMRs. 4 at top are sight in, next 9 are rapid fire and all smacked in a 4" spot...well cept for that low one and edge adjusting for 12 mph wind.
I also dropped 3 coyotes Saturday night calling w/the d740 on top of it. I have a PEPR QD base w/my day scope and swap out as needed, both remain right on for POA.
