Hello everyone! I've always wanted to get into long range shooting and finally picked up a Rem 700 XCR Compact Tactical in .308 to have fun with and build on. I've been a hunter from a young age so shooting is nothing new to me but building a precision rifle and reaching out 600-700 yds and up is very new to me. On glass i'm leaning to the NF NXS 3.5-15x50. Any advice?

Welcome, i'm close to you in Odessa/Carrollton. I haven't ever had a nf but they are very good and respected scopes

Ya, that's not to far away.. I'd be up for shooting if you want to sometime? I've heard there's a 900yd range somewhere down 70hwy, any ideas?

I haven't heard of it but I would be interested in shooting. Where my dad lives in the bottoms there is basically unlimited range. Only hard thing is its so flat its hard to see any misses.

Hello, I'm from just outside of KC area and are new to this forum as well. I haven't heard of a public 900 yard range around here.

If you are willing to drive a few hours south, we have an 800 yd range at Big Piney Sportsmans Club near Houston, MO. If you are headed this way, let me know and I will be there (or make sure someone else is) to let you in and show you around.

Sean thanks, if I ever get out that way I'll definitely give you a heads up! midmoguy might be interested in this range as well?

jarodel81,

Gimme a shout. There's a full, 20 point 600 yard range just north of us here in Marshall (Bucksnort Shooting Club), and the St. Louis Bench Rest Club (SLBRC) over in Wright City has another. State High Power Championships are usually held up in Marshall (and we just had it three weeks ago) and the State High Power Service Rifle Championships are held in SLBRC (that was two weeks ago). Other matches held throughout the year, if you're interested. We practice every Wednesday afternoon over in Columbia, and do frequent sessions up at Bucksnort as well. Let me know if you're interested.

Sounds awesome but that is way above my skill level! Like hoenshell said, I would like to watch the next comp though! Thanks for the heads up on this one!

I won't be shooting this 308 for awhile, it's getting sent back to Remington due to a factory mistake.. Blows....

Ahhhhh You're one of those Lapua guys I've seen around Sedalia.. What exactly do you guys do?

I had an issue mounting my NF scope base to it, the barrel end screw hole wasn't drilled and tapped all the way through the action. I can still count about 5 threads deep so I'm still in the air about sending it in or not? How is yours treating you?

Damn what happened? I have the same rifle.

Man, that sucks. No issues with mine. I didn't like the factory stock so I made some changes. Now it fits me like a glove and is a pleasure to shoot.

jerodel81,

Adam (the big white truck with the Lapua wrap) and I (maroon van with the "LAPUA 2" plates) are the US sales and marketing reps. Adam handles the sales end of things, and I do the tech stuff, customer correspondence, complaints, product suggestions, that sort of thing. We don't actually import or sell anything here in Sedalia, that's all handled by our importers; Graf's, Hodgdon's, Brownells/Crowe Shooters Supply, and SSI. But we're the ones who attend the matches, trade shows, conventions and that sort of thing. I've been with Lapua about 4-5 years now, and it's been great. The Finns are a hoot, and it's a wonderful company to work for.

As for Bucknsort, it's above everyone's skill level, the first time out. Dive in, and that's how you'll attain the skills required to compete in that arena. Sorry, no other way around that!

Man that thing looks good! I'm wanting to go with the Surgeon bottom metal and the MCM A1. When I get around to it GAP is about an hour and a half from my house so I believe they'll have their hands on it.. Thanks for sharing your sweet looking CT!

Kevin thanks for the info, I've been curious about that truck since I seen it at the chinese restaurant one day, you guys were just showing up as I was walking out. I'm really impressed with how many resources we have right in the Sedalia area and surrounding area for this kind of hobby, I don't know why it's taken me so long to get the itch.. As a local electrician I get to work in Sierra bullets and Starline from time to time and actually today I was at Sierra working on one of their waste water pumps. We also get to help Starline build some of their equipment for their production line, i have some pretty cool videos of their equipment in our shop running brass..
