Just wanted to post on my SPS LT Tactical. Started this project as a beginner budget build. Originally I thought I would eventually replace the stock, but I practiced bedding and floating the barrel. Had a small snag on the first attempt and many hours later completed the second with great results. I know may people say its a waste of time to do anything to the Tupperware stock, but it's better than ruining a $300+ dollar stock. After the results, I can't see changing it for purposes.

Got a 100 yard group here and a single I dope in at 300 yards while shooting melons. Probably should have shot more at 300 yards, but had no problem exploding 8-10" melons at 300 yards. This rifle is super repeatable.

I can't seem to find much info on the Remington 20" 1:10 twist 3 fluted barrel. All I know is it shoots phenomenally. I've shot many 100 yard groups and out to 300 yards and it always impresses.

If anyone can offer any details on what other Remington 700's share this barrel please let me know. I'm curious to know if this is typical performance of the barrel and action. I've been eyeing that 700 model 5200 (SS 20" 5R HS Precision) for my next venture.

Yep. I was planning on using mine as a donor action, but can't find a need at this point in time. I went out shooting yesterday with another member, and shot sub-1/2 MOA with HIS handloads for his GAP on my factory barrel, action and bolt. Though nothing else is the same on mine any more, everything else replaced.

I haven't really found a personal need for hand loads at this point. This thing loves the 168 gr Sierra match. Maybe one day in the future when I progress to a higher power optic. But I'm thinking I will keep this one as is and use it for a carry hunter.

mine sps tactical give me a 11mm 5 shot group at 100m completely stock. (168SMK, 42gr N140, lapua brass,cci BR2)

now i've changed trigger with a rifle basix and changed the stock with a GRS varmint :D

Yes the 700P. I see the 3/8 trifluted 20" barrel like mine on the 700P is usually 1:12 twist. I've been looking....thanks.

These were a limited run for a distributor, the few that I have seen were 1-10 twist(been told they did a run with 1-12 twist also, and other colored stock) with flutes like an LTR with the rough SPS style black finish. I wanted to get one for a cheap stick but funds did not allow.
Another shooter at my club has one and it really likes the 168 amax.

Yeah for a total build price around $1500, the price for the results is pretty amazing. My intention was a budget build so i opted for the cheaper stock version. Plus, I'm still not sure what stock i would buy today for this gun. Bedding/floating the SPS stock pulled in the groups and improved the consistency. It's not bipod capable due to the lack of forearm strength. It's a great little carry hunter and really fun to chunk lead out there and hit everything. This gun really likes the 168 gr as well.

I bought my xcr compact tactical complete with a cheap weaver rail for 600 off of a guy that never shot it as he couldnt find factory 68-75 gr ammo .. so far best 600 I spent in a long time. Adjusted the 40x trigger in it, added badger base and rings and a 4.5x14x50 leupold vari x 3 long range and it works nicely have about 1400 in it..

As far as the trigger goes. I considered buying an old style remmy. The x-mark broke very inconsistently when adjusted to the lighter/lightest setting. I bought a new main spring from Erniethegunsmith. Best $7 I ever spent on a gun. Dropped over a pound and now breaks at a true 2 lbs 11 oz. it only drifts about an ounce either way; (that could be testing error). Anyone considering replacing the X-mark adjustable should consider this spring. I know for me it was enough. Makes a huge difference in shoot-ability.
