Range Report Australian Outback Ammo in .308?

Read about this back in early March; have a chance to buy some and thought I'd ask if anyone has a range report on these things. I have questions mostly about the brass; they are using 168grn SMKs and some sort of high-energy, temperature stable powder. Some have said they are using ADI brass, but I thought they stopped making .308 a couple years ago. Boxer primed?

Regardless, any info would be helpful.

I could have swore I read a thread here on the hide about this stuff. If memory serves, it shoots well, like factory ammo but it is not match quality by any means. I'll see if I can find the thread on it.

it is probably good ammo, adi is the company that make varget, h4350, h1000, imr8208xbr. They use different nomenclature of course.

This was confirmed to me by them when I asked what it would take to buy from them direct.

Have recently tried in both .308 SMK and .223 SMK. I have been really impressed. This is the best factory loads I have ever used. Have only shot at 100 and 200 yards, but this stuff is really good.

Just bought a few boxes of .308 Win. They use 165gr Sierra game king bullets. Brass is stamped ADI 308 Win. Interested to find out how the brass reloads.

I went out yesterday, with my AR10A4NM, 20" barrel,1:10. I am stuck on the Hornady Superformance 168(2870fps). The other ammo was
the "Aussie"(I call them)308 168BTI, and FedGM 168, and my Hornadys. I shot at 300 yards with all three. My Hornadys(as I expected) shot the
best(note:4 shots each), The Aussies(2791fps) and the Feds(2780?), shot the same(same fall at 300yds), but I was surprised at the Aussies, that
they grouped better than the Feds.The Hornadys shot placement(group) was 3" ish inches higher than the other two. The price I got at LuckyGunner 31.50bx20, was cheaper than the Feds. For my rifle, I would choose the Aussies over the Feds. Love my AR, shot .750 100 yrd, and a couple months ago shot a .625 and .434, 4 shot groups, using the Hornadys. I have searching for the Hornadys, and the only place that has them is Tomestone For 39.xx bx, with 13.00 for one charge, and 3% for something else. I will shoot regular 308 nato, before I let them price-hog me. But, if anyone finds Hornady Super's, 80964, please e-mail me [email protected](my wifes email name, I hate e-mail-HA). Just my .02 worth. I will doing more testing with the Aussies, at different ranges versus
the Hornadys, and let you know the results.

The Aussies BTI shot 3" lower than my Hornady's Superformance, both 168 gr. The Aussies had the same fall at 300 yards, as the FedGM 168smk(close in fps), but
the Aussies grouped better, than the FedGM by 1"+, but I like the Hornadys Super 80964(2870fps). If anyone know where to find the 80964, please email me

before each 300yrd,4-shot group, of the Hornady's, Aussies and the FedGM, all 168 gr. Just my .02.

Australian Outback Ammo

pulled my sig out with double set triggers and 3 X 9 X 40 Redfeild, my 16 year old grandson has never shot this rifle , he dry fired for about 5 min., then put three rounds into mag. set elevation knob to 400 yards and hit three out of three on an eight inch h-beam. He set elevation to 600 yards and hit three out of three on a 10 inch h-beam.
the ammo gets a thumbs up from me and the grandson is now hooked on long range shooting, and it took days for his grin to wear off. I am fixing to order 100 rounds of this ammo, now what I want to know, can I get my hands on some of the powder they use to reload with?

I purchased some outback 168gr SMKs (yes it says Sierra Match King on the box) and shot this 5-shot group with my Remington 700 sps varmit. I'm rather impressed with the ammunition as I've shot quite a few federal gold medal 168s through my rifle and the grouping was almost the same. I get consistent 1/2 MOA groups from both rounds. The BTI powder in the outback rounds is really neat too because it's almost temperature neutral, I shot this group while it was raining as opposed to the sunny days I usually take to the range on. I'm impressed, although when it comes longer distance I'm still a newbie so I look forward to getting this ammo out pasted 500yds.

I just noticed that the only guys with a report (all very good reports) about this ammo, are guys with less than 25 posts, most with less than 5 posts! What at strange turn of events, only the newest (least number of posts wise) members of this board have tried/are familiar with this ammo! Welcome aboard guys! Looking forward to your post in the future.
