Need a folder for a 16.5

As long as it has a 16" barrel the stock length or lack there of doesn't matter. At least to the Feds. I have no idea about your local/state laws.

Edit: after a little research and a ton of conflicting information I'm editing my response to... "I have no idea" and or "I'm no help".

;)

No one? I found out a McRee will work but I don't like that platform. Anyone with a Manners or KRG?

My 18.5 with manners folder is about 2 weeks out, I might be able to get PCR take a measurement for you. My Cadex is still being held hostage

Keep me posted. I'm more interested in the Manners than anything else.

I have both the Mcree and the KRG folders. While I do like the Mcree (expecially its price) the grip has always been its weak point IMO. The KRG grip is incredible and the folding mechanism is rock solid (as is the Mcree). Only thing I'm still iffy on with the KRG is the cheekpiece, it is a bit skinny but seems to be working ok. I have not owned a Manners folder yet so no help there but I do like the horizontal adjustment the Manners cheekpiece offers. At the same time the KRG has vertical butt adjustment so I guess its kind of a give and take on which features are most important to you.

Feds measure with the stock out don't they?

I was under the impression that it's the shortest operating length. Anyone know? Like really know? Wikipedia and random Google hits don't count. I'm not committing a felony because of the bozos on the internet(no offense, guys :p)

I have a KRG and Manners. Im not sure if they will/won't meet your measurements but the Manners is amazing. I got the TF1 and should be getting the completed rifle in a few weeks. I strongly suggest the Manners if it fits the goals of you project.

Ten seconds on google found me an ATF PDF that says they measure with a folding stock extended.

A short barreled rifle is a rifle (shoulder fired, rifled bore) with a barrel length of less than 16", or an overall length of less than 26", or any weapon made from a rifle falling into the same length parameters (like a pistol made from a rifle). In measuring barrel length you do it from the closed breech to the muzzle, see 27 CFR sec. 179.11. To measure overall length do so along, "the distance between the extreme ends of the weapon measured along a line parallel to the center line of the bore." 27 CFR sec. 179.11. On a folding stock weapon you measure with the stock extended, provided the stock is not readily detachable, and the weapon is meant to be fired from the shoulder.

STRIKE 33 - Wow sorry to hear about that gun smith still not returning your equipment. As I mentioned earlier when we spoke, if you need an additional chassis, please let me know. We can help you out. Chris

Chris,
Thanks again for everything. When I get this all done with I may just get rid of the whole thing and start over. I'll definitely look you up to wrap a 260 in a Cadex. Once the legal portion of its over I'll be able to spread the word of all the extra support you have given me along the way.

With that being said...Certainly look at the Cadex from Drake Associates. Chris hooked me up with a Cadex Strike 33 and continued to send updates and parts along the way. Not to mention just checking in to see how the build was going. The Chassis is no doubtingly expensive, but it is rock solid, very comfortable and modular. Top Notch service

Start with ATF P 5320.8 Chapter 2.

It's an explanation of how the Marble Game getter is legal so long as the folding stock is attached.

The strike 33 is nice looking but 7.2lbs is way too heavy to be considered an option. I don't like that a Manners or W3 will be around 5 lbs but they're the lightest folding options I've found so far.

Why not a KRG, AICS or AX?

AI stocks don't do it for me and I'm looking to keep it relatively light. KRG and Manners are frontrunners but until I get a hold of someone who can clarify legal length, I'm gonna err on the side of caution.

Got in touch with a field office today. They confirmed that the law measures unfolded, assuming the stock is affixed and not readily removable. Opens up the options a little.

Excellent. It's piece of mind hearing it directly from the horses mouth. I was sure it was unfolded but being 100% for sure verses what's on the internet and being almost sure is always best. CYOA they say, now buy a chassis already :)

I have an AICS 2.0 with a 16.5" barrel and a YHM QD flash hider. Folded length is a shade under 31".

Mine wears the qd brake(can't remember the length vs the hider, I'd have to measure) and I thought about pinning it but I'd be out $90 once the barrel is worn out.

Since my original question's been answered, what are you using for a case? After using Pelicans for some time, I'd like to try a soft case with molle this time around so I can carry a kestrel, spare mags, and ammo that would normally be in a separate bag. Drag bags, however, are too big for this application.

I still use a large Storm case and I have a backpack that carries my extra mags and gear. I had the case on hand already and didnt feel a need to buy a new smaller case. I have used a bat bag and tennis racket bag before as a lower profile transportation method.
