I regularly walk my land and carry my rifle. I really just need to build a lighter gun but I love my heavy barrels. I use the standard slings that stretch from one end of the gun to the other and gets uncomfortable. I like the idea of the backpack or biathlon slings but how hard is it to access the gun? are there any other options i'm missing. something that lays the gun across the front of me?

It's not hard at all to access the rifle from a biathlon carry, about as fast as shrugging off a pack. I've been carrying my rifle that weighs almost 20 pounds around my property that is pretty steep and have been using our RAS sling and it works great. There's no stretch in the 1.5" webbing and the rapid adjust feature makes it easy to loosen or tighten the sling as needed while walking.
