Please help! Had my gun taken in Oklahoma....

I was going to ask the same thing. I'm a native of La. now living elsewhere, but even WAY before we had CCW, you could have a loaded, accessible firearm in your car "as an extension of your home" as you stated. I don't think the CCW law in any way negated that.

Thanks for replying, I just happened to be online. I remembered my dad getting pulled over a long time ago and simply telling the officer there was a handgun in the glove box with the registration. The officer unloaded it while they talked, but it was given right back; no worries, no fuss. Just wasn't sure if anything had changed.....

"How many moves"
"Mag wasn't seated and not one in the pipe"
Etc etc ad nauseum. It doesn't matter.

Not advocating for the known Fifes in this world, and not lambasting the OP. Simply put: Anyone who takes a CCW course and passes SHOULD damn well know the laws of whatever state in which they plan to carry. One of the first things I learned was the fact that an expired license means I have NO PERMIT TO CARRY CONCEALED. We were admonished NUMEROUS times to renew our permit EARLY. Why because in this state, a concealed weapon charge is really damned hefty offence.

Sorry guys. UNder the Oklahoma statute, as it reads and has been posted, his pistol WAS concealed. As I suspected, had it been laying in plain view he would still have his pistol.
NO I am not LEO, nor do I have any sycophantic tendencies toward them. When you are wrong you are wrong. The fact that you are free and walking around with $50 gone and minus a Glock, does IN FACT speak to the fact that OK as a whole is VERY pro gun. Not saying you should roll over but I would be careful how hard I poked the bear.

I know when I went through the Academy in Lafayette in 1992 (pre Concealed Carry law) your car was an extension of your home and it was lawful to have a concealed handgun anywhere in your car you wanted to. I looked up the current law and the La State Concealed Carry webpage simply says that the State doesn't have a law specifically prohibiting the carry of a handgun in your car without a license, but it makes reference to some statutes which may limit that right.
I'm not always able to get in touch with some of my buddies still in LE in La, but if I can I'll make sure nothing has changed.

The initial cause of your entire problem is you were speeding. (breaking the law) we all do it not big deal if every thing else is in order.
second you did not take the time to familiarize your self with the state laws. I am assuming you have a smart phone? if so it would have taken 5min to do so and than saved yourself countless hours of this.. Third you let your permit expire. If your car insurance expires even for a day and you get in an accident your in deep.. My point here is your crying over a $600 gun used may be $400 But you got extremely lucky considering in all reality it is! Your fault! your in this mess to begin with.

So it is your choice get a lawyer to straighten out your mess and get your $400 back or leave it alone. Either way you have to pay the stupid tax. The question is how much do you want to pay $400 or $1000+ for an attorney. we all pay the stupid tax from time to time weather it is a speeding ticket, drop your gun and break the scope, stub your toe, what ever just decide how much your willing to pay and be done with it

The ignore feature works great man, you don't have to read his retardation. Too bad we only have a ignore user option, not a ban option.

Cut the shit everyone. Some advice, don't pick a fight and then run to the mods. Think about what you post.

The day cops stop carrying their guns loaded will be the day ill stop carrying mine loaded. Ill get my permit renewed when I get time, hopefully in a couple weeks. I'm sorry I sped man but really?

It sounds like you have several problems, most of them caused by your own attitude.

1) If you are going to carry a gun it is up to you to comply with the law in the jurisdiction you are in.
2) Speed limits are there for a reason. If you are carrying a illegal gun or smoking a joint at least follow the speed limit.
3) You state your intention to continue to violate the law until is is convenient for you to come into compliance with it.
4) You make that statement on a public forum (Snipers Hide) that has many police and Government agents as members.

I recommend that you get your head on straight before you carry a gun. I do not see this ending well, if you continue on the path you are on, with the attitudes you display on your posts here. You should regard the fact that you got off so easy as a second chance. Please do not waste it by being stupid.

Necropost much?

Only solution for stupid laws is nullification and LE to stop enforcing stupid laws.

OR... How about stupid people, stop electing stupid officials who draft stupid laws into place. Why bother though, it's always easier to come on the internet and blame the police for your stupid mistakes.

Hmm, not deliberately. I came across the thread by clicking on the "whats new" header and this thread came up in the first page. I was reading from the beginning without checking the dates. I wonder if perhaps there had been other recent posts that were deleted?

Do you really think individual police officers should be tasked with deciding which laws are stupid of should be enforced? I do not think that would be a good idea. What's next, police officers making up laws?

Did I say that?

Nope. But there are plenty of Sheriffs, for instance, in NY state ignoring the SAFE Act.

I was pulled-over once in Oklahoma. The officer asked me where I was coming from. When I said 'Rifles Only' he replied 'What's it like? I've always wanted to take a course there.' He never asked me about any weapons.
