Stolen out of vehicle at his house. Yes he knows leaving it int he rig wasn't wise, just hoping it's a lesson learned without total loss of everything in the end.
No insurance? You guys would be shocked at how cheap renter's insurance is.
Do I dare ask why you would assume no insurance? Would you assume that if it was insured for 100% replacement he or I wouldn't care enough to at least try recovering it?
And you'd be surprised how little most renter's insurance will truly cover as far as guns go, especially cheap renter's insurance. If you want good coverage you need to add an additional rider to cover specifics such as your firearms, jewelry, valuables, etc.
If it really matters to you I suspect he has some form of insurance coverage that will help but that's not the point.

I have insurance. That doesn't get me back the seven months I spent building it. Countless hours hand picking every single piece for the comp rifle of my dreams.

hey dude I'm sorry for your loss but I'll keep an eye out and I'd go to the gun show this weekend, and also I'll look around since I don't live far from portland and I'll look around in the area. dang if I lost one of those I would be devastated. I hunt around if I can for it.

Crappy, sorry for your loss makes me think twice about how I load and unload the cage here at home. I will also keep a better eye on the rear view mirror returning home from the range. Do you by chance have other pictures of the rifle?
Sorry to hear about that. Hope you pulled a Mark Wahlburg and switched the firing pin.....but with a round like a 6SLR, its damn near useless to anyone that isn't in the sport or know a great deal about loading. I'll keep an eye out up here.
Was it actually stolen in portland or somewhere around the metro area and did you file a police report. My brother is a robbery detective with PPB, I'll make sure he sees your flier.
I don't think he will mind me posting these since he already has elsewhere on public forum. These were taken last weekend. Not many pics of the rifle out there as it was pretty much brand new. Shouldn't be hard to identify a Defiance action that has been melonited black.

Thanks everyone for just keeping an eye out. It's all a long shot but have to try. He's had a lot of time go by while waiting on parts and such to build this thing and has only been done a couple/few weeks. He's pretty bummed.
thats f****D up, im sorry to hear that. if it somehow washes up 8hrs south ill let you know. i just had my cell phone stolen in portland on wednesday during oregon brewers fest and im still pissed, if it was a multi-thousand dollar rifle id be sick.

I wouldn't be surprised at all because I have a rider that covers all of my firearms to my declared value, in order to make sure that my customized guns are fully covered even if all of them were stolen at once.
But I have in fact had a firearm stolen and EVERYTHING was covered, including accessories, the case it was in--the whole nine yards. My policy at the time was limited at $5k or 10k, can't remember which, but either way, the one gun that was stolen was nowhere near the limit.
And once you have a claim with insurance, the gun is no longer your property, so I'm not sure why you'd care if it was recovered or not, as you would have long since replaced it. I'm sure it's great to get it off the street and all, but if my gun was ever recovered, I'd tell them to forward the gun onto State Farm.
In MY experience, I got full replacement value, and for $15 a month, that's a LOT of peace of mind.

The rest of you, if you're reading this and don't have insurance yet, do it! It's so absolutely worth it. It doesn't replace a custom build that takes a year to complete but at least the check will get the ball rolling.

I don't even like leaving my rifles at the firing line when I walk forward to reset targets as I am afraid that some A-hole is going to scoop up one of my rifles and be gone before I get back. We have a show down here next weekend in Ontario and I will keep an eye out for it. I know the owner is pissed as the theft could have been prevented if he had not left it in the car but that's how it goes. As far as insurance goes, I called State Farm to get an additional 40K coverage to cover my stuff and they wanted 125 a month. I just selected the "top shelf" stuff for additional coverage and will deal with the other stuff if it ever goes missing. It will turn up as that build is too far out of the norm so it will be noticed. I would also call vortex and report the scope so that way when the new owner tries to register it, they can trace it back as the next owner will most likely not know it is stolen unless they know rifles and they are getting a 20 cents on the dollar deal.

Making sure this flyer gets out in North Carolina. I've had a pistol stolen in a house break-in (only weapon outside of my gunsafe). The fact that some low life piece of crap has his hands on something I worked for made me sick. The fact that he will probably sell it for 200 bucks to get his next hit of crack makes it worse. For the comment by Hairball about not liking to leave your rifle on the firing line when you check targets. 100% agree with you. A man in PA at a state gamelands range was murdered by his own Ar-15 when he went down range to check his target. Some a-hole walked over picked his weapon up and shot him as he was coming back from his target and stole the rifle. I always take my bolt out and carry it down range when I'm not shooting with friends.
If it was stolen in PDX proper, I would hit up the pawnshops in the neighborhoods near where it was stolen. You would be surprised how stupid/lazy some tweekers are when it comes to moving stolen property. That is a unique enough caliber that the pawn shop dudes will remember the stick. Suffered many a car prowl in Stumptown. I don't leave anything in my cars...

Had the same thing happen to me in 2009. 3300$ gun .... Gone. Stolen by a group of crack heads that popped my lock with a screw driver. Also got GPS. I never got mine back but I had the "AWSOME" Jackson police department and they didn't really give a shit. Got some revenge though. 2 weeks later a guy drinking beer watching a Sunday night nfl game saw 2 guys breaking in his truck. He popped both of them with a .40 cal smith and Wesson. Got to love the Castle Law
