The 2013 Heat Stroke Open is scheduled for July 27th and 28th. This will be a two day Tactical precision "sniper" type competition. Competitors will be engaging both known & unknown distance targets anywhere from 5 to 1200 yards, the targets will be an assortment of paper steel, and reactive steel. Most stages will include some form of stress induction... be it problem solving, awkward shooting positions, time, ect. The Heat Stroke Open will be a Precision Rifle Series (PRS) event. to accommodate up to 100 shooters we are going to run two separate locations, both within 30 min. of Elk City, OK. Competitors will be split into two groups with each going to a separate location, and will shoot the remaining location on day two. Due to the heat that we typically have in Oklahoma this time of year we plan to be done shooting each day by 1:30 or 2:00.

General Registration will open @ 8:00 pm (central) Feb. 21st by completing the form found at the following link. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1PQ6w_Mco6AhpkcSNrFIBvmljc4TuiFDmbmiKa3u_Ivo/viewform

Any registration received before 8:00 pm Feb. 21st will not be admissible.

The first 50 registrations received (based on time stamp) will be guaranteed spots in the match. Of the remaining 50 spots, some of them will go to sponsors, and the rest will be chosen by a selection committee. Preference on these spots will be given to in no particular order; those who have supported us in the past, match directors & RO’s, Military & law enforcement, & O.P.P.S members.

Even if you feel like you are going to get in through the selection, you still need to submit your registration, as these registrations are where we will be making the selections from.

The entry fee is $250 and will include lunch on both days & a t-shirt. Entry fees are non-refundable and there will be no substations. All open spots will be filled via the waiting list.

The round count will be around 200. All of the PRS and OPPS rules will apply. The speed limit is 3150fps and those cartridges in question will be checked.

As we get a little closer I will get everyone up to date on an itinerary, and also get a list of hotels.

If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected].

Good luck to everyone on registration, and I hope that you all have a great 2013 PRS season!

Here is a list of last years sponsors, please thank & support them every chance you get. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please contact us at [email protected].

Re: 2013 Heat Stroke Open (PRS)

This is a heck of a fun match and very challenging. If you can put up with the heat you will enjoy yourself and learn a lot along the way.

I was on the fence just because it will be damn hot probably but I cant pass up 30 minutes from home. Everyone pray for a cold front that weekend.

I think there was a cold front that came through last year but it was still almost 100! I am looking forward to it again this year.

Holy crap, if we shot that during a cold front last year then oklahoma is alot closer to the gates of hell than i thought.

I will have some updates soon. No need for a 4wheeler, everything will be in close proximity for short walk.

The Prize table is starting to come together. When we get a little closer I will get you a complete sponsor list, but I just wanted to go ahead and recognize these four sponsors who have already stepped up and committed to a platinum level sponsorship

Third Generation Shooting Supply is providing S&B 3-20 PM II, as well as a stock, barrel, & trigger for Surgeon build. which brings me to our next Platinum sponsor

Surgeon Rifles is providing the 591 action & bottom metal and doing all of the gunsmith work to put a Surgeon rifle on the prize table.

Nightforce is providing not one, but TWO NXS F1 riflescopes

Swarovski is providing not one but TWO pair of 10X42 EL Swarovision Binoculars

That is roughly $18,000 worth of product put on the table by four sponsors. Please thank these guys, and support the sponsors that support us.

We have several guys who have not paid yet, and a few that have backed out. If you are still interested in shooting this match, we have open spots. I am going to reopen registration until July 1. I will be closing the books July 1 if you would like to shoot, I need your payment by then.

You can register at this link:
Heat Stroke Open Registration

Thanks,
Joey

If I were you I think I would send in my cash before you screw around and miss out!

Thank goodness the weather is starting to turn. I was afraid we were going to have to shoot the Heat Stroke Open with 60 degree mornings and highs up around 85 but it's looking allot like Oklahoma on the last forecast I saw. Closer to the old 100's we all know and love around here.

Congrats to Joey, Rick and all the R.O.'s who put on a great match out in the Oklahoma hills. We never had to wait on another troop all weekend. Shot nearly 200 rounds in 2 days and got done by 12:30 every day before the heat got bad. Nice job! Thank you to all the industry sponsors especially Surgeon Rifles for the support you give at every match I go to. And for those of you who couldn't make it I would definitely plan to attend this match next year.

+1, I personally enjoyed this match as well. Had a diverse course of fire with a couple real problem solving stages and mix of target difficulties. I've got it on my calendar for next year for sure.

Thanks for the great prize table and time you put into this match!!

A big Thank You to Joey, Rick, and all the great RO's who pulled off a wonderful match in July in Oklahoma. No waiting, great target presentation, RO's that are shooters who know what's what! Well laid out stages that flowed one to the next, good spread of challenges and points value per stage. Well done guys!!

Ditto on the above comments. This was my first PRS, and I had no idea what to expect. The match layout was very efficient, and the RO's did an excellent job of explaining the courses of fire.

I shot with a really great group of guys, and learned a ton about myself, my strengths, my weaknesses, and about how to prepare for a match. I'm really excited for the next PRS match I shoot, and am really excited to shoot in the heatstroke next year.

Thank you to everyone; shooters, ROs, MDs, and landowners. And bronco, for giving me a ride down and back and sharing his knowledge about match shooting with me. I would've placed even closer to last without it!
