So, thinking of picking up one of these. Looking for opinions from those who have owned or shot one.

Are they well made, quality built?
Is the stainless supermatch barrel worth it?
What accuracy were you getting?

Is a 22inch barrel to short for a 50?
Looking to go out to around 1,500 yards. Looking at the 22 inch barrel to keep down on weight but want to maximize distance at the same time. I know a lot to ask.

Note: I am not a 50 shooter just looking to pick it up.

Had a barrett I started to shoot and then sold it, picked up an EDM that I am currently looking to sell. Just want something shorter and lighter.

Overall looking for a lighter single shot 50 that is as accurate as I can get but not so expensive.

Thanks gunner

Ive looked at em and researched em some but never seen one in person... supposedly they are top notch for AR conversions and shoot really well. Thats as much as I know..

I was just looking at them last night. I just sold an ar50 to another member here a couple of months ago and regret it at more and more every day.

Hopefully someone posts some feedback.

Ite82,

I'm in almost the same boat, hopefully someone with first hand knowledge can chime in. Like to get feedback before spending money.

Talking with the owner he seems well informed and happy to help which is always a good first sign.

I would not trust a platform that shoot a 50BMG cartridge off an AR15 lower. You are relying on those two pins to hold together a rifle..... I'd stay away.
There is no "cheap" way to get into a 50BMG.

^^^ THIS.

I've shot 2-3 rounds out of two different Ferrets.

They held together for that brief period. No real sense of accuracy, but wouldn't expect sterling accuracy from a bargain basement, budget version of any rifle.

They are absolutely rude and abusive to anyone port or starboard of your shooting position. If you shoot at public ranges, be prepared for icy glares from other shooters humping their gear back to their cars immediately after you pull the first trigger of the day.

That's true of every .50BMG rifle dumped into the middle of a firing line of .308s.

For what it's worth, the Ferrets are quite popular with competitive .50BMG shooters and they have a history of performing well. But as mentioned, most of the cheaper .50BMG tube guns, especially the AR conversions, are crap. I think the Ferret's the one major stand out in that crowd and best of all, it won't blow up in your face. They've made a concerted effort to prevent out of battery detonations in their design, which have plagued other economical .50BMG rifles.

But to the OP, you've already got an EDM M96 unfired that you're selling because you don't have access to ranges that'll let you shoot it. How is this going to change your situation? And honestly, if you ask anyone here to compared a Windrunner to a Ferret or similar tube gun, you're going to get a very one-sided answer. And going with a 22" barrel to save weight isn't going to help you with accuracy issues. If you're after a lightweight .50BMG that's also relatively compact and portable, order a DTA HTI. But if you don't have access to .50BMG friendly ranges, why not tone it down a notch?

Please don't hold back, and let us know how you really feel about 50 cals ?
I've owned two ferret 50's and know shooters who've been shooting ferrets in comps for years, without issue. The super comp is worth the extra money. After thousands of 50 bmg rounds fired,I took my colt lower(after switching it back to the lighter AR hammer and spring)and it fit without any problems to my A2 upper. No need to worry about damaging the lower.Ferret also offers dedicated lowers,or you can use a DPMS single shot lower.50 cal powders are slow burning,so your not going to get a full burn shooting a short barrel.
I always shoot my 50 cals first,so I can rid the range of the whiners who shoot the puny calibers,Especially shooters with those horrible Garand rifles.
When I spot a garand on the range,I always break out the M2 and a hundred round belt. The links + brass hitting the ground, blocks out that annoying ping the garand makes.
Usually it only takes about 25 rounds before I have the range to myself.Money well spent, when I want the range to myself.

You've got an excellent plan there, pizzing off other people with guns.... just make sure you only pizz off people nicer and more level headed than yourself, and not someone like yourself.

Free advice. Be careful out there...

If you want to put your face next to a tube gun style 50BMG that is held on by only those two AR15 pins...... go right ahead. Just make sure you give warning so everyone can get off the line.
There are stories circulating the shooting community of these style rifles failing and causing some serious damage.

Just be cautious what you spend your money on. My advice, get a different platform. Barrett Model 99 is an entry level rifle that has a great track record.

These guns are highly regarded over at FCSA. I've spoken to the owner a number of times and have no doubt he backs his product. Probably best of it's type.

I have started looking at the DTA HTI, if only the price was better. If I go that route will have to save up.

I do not expect to be able to shoot much 50 in the next year or so but hopefully after. Selling the EDM to also free up cash as unable to shoot now and to just get something different. Want to replace it with a smaller package and as my home of residence is IL no telling when they will ban them so do not want to wait to long.

thanks for all the info, lot to think about.
