Rifle Scopes Thinking Of Buying These Scope Rings

I've never had qd rings on a bolt gun, but I like the idea of being able to pull off the scope and slap it on another rifle. Being a LaRue, I'm confident that it will not lose its zero. I know the hight is up there, that's the only concern I have. It's going on a 10fp, scope is a Vortex PST.

Any cons that I'm not thinking of?

I would never put QD rings on a bolt gun.

Also, while it may be nice to swap optics between rifles, even the best QD mounts will 90% of the time NOT bring you back to absolute zero.

QD rings seem to work great for ARs at close ranges because a slight change only has a slight impact, but a long range rig is going to be affected a lot more by a slight change.

You'll most likely have to change your zero from gun to gun anyway. It's worth the few minutes to transfer scopes.

I'm amazed the can of worms has remained sealed. If this thread remains active long enough I have no doubt you'll get some opinions on the LaRue mounts (and everything else LaRue).
As stated above, the mount is probably not going to be 100% perfect returning to zero. However, as fenwick pointed out, if you're changing between rifles (as I'm going to with the BEAST if it ever shows up) then you're going to be changing zero on the scope for each rifle anyway. Whether my scope is in a permanent or QD mount, before I set out for long range I verify my zero anyway.
IIRC someone, maybe Lowlight himself, did a review of sorts on the QD mounts and found that there were some that outperformed LaRue. I think GDI was one of them, not sure of the other. For the price and depending on intended use I think you'll be fine with the LaRue as long as you understand the possible limitations.

I do know that I will have to change the zero between rifles, I just wanted a qd scope that will hold it's zero while on the rifle, and will return to the same spot one installed.

It is very difficult to have two identical rifles that have the same point of impact. Even if you have two 10fp rifles, they will most likely have a different POI (too many variables involved). This is the argument for needing to adjust your zero (not range zero, but POI zero). Don't get me wrong, the mount is great but its intention is to be quickly removed and reinstalled on the same rifle. Otherwise, spend 5 minutes with a wrench and change out your optic. Good luck on your search.

That mount is made for an AR in it's height. It will be very high on a bolt gun mount. You will have to build up your cheek weld alot.

Buy a torque wrench and a good set of rings and mount them. They will return to zero as well as any QD mounts and will cost less.

You're right about that, it is very high. In light of these responses, I am now looking at the Badger one piece mount as a solution.

Same height. Get a good set of rings. You are not the first person with this idea. I have written this alot. Some take the advice. Some don't but eventually do as they learn the lesson themselves.

The height for the Badger is .885" which is actually lower than the low TPS rings that I'm looking at. Or are they measured differently?

Yeah there is the one in 30mm. That would work as it's a good height for that scope. It's not going to be anymore return to zero than a set of rings though when both are properly installed and torqued on. If you want one piece that would be a good choice.

I think it would be easier to use these rings for swapping from rifle to rifle considering different tolerances from manufacturer to manufacturer. I guess. Lol.

Never had any trouble swapping ringed scopes from rifle to rifle. Do it all the time. If you will feel better with that set up then get it. Won't hurt anything unlike the other AR style one piece set ups.

Just do like they do over at @R15.com, They just use the larue mt for every gun and it's always zeroed!!! But then again everyone on that site shoots the same bullet hole with every gun they have. I was looking at a Noveske that shot .2"s at 500yds, lol ;)
