Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

DTA is shipping me a new .308 Covert conversion today, awesome!

Ryan was a big help this time around and I definitely appreciate it.

I just need to clarify something here... so I understand.

They shipped, using their account, and they want you to handle the claim? If that's the case, will fedex even deal with you, since you weren't their "customer" in this transaction?

DTA is making it right once again. I pray to God things work out this time.

Now I'm off to Dr. with my girl to see if she's pregnant. :(

Wish me luck(that she is NOT)

Dude, stop being so Passive-Aggressive. Please take your conversations with DTA offline. Thanks.

How about you go fuck yourself. Once you've been in my shoes you can tell me what to do. You've been here two years and you think it's your place to dictate to others what to post. LOL GTFO

Like I said above, DTA is making this right and going the extra mile to get this sorted out. I am very appreciative of that.

Take it offline with this punk. If you have a problem with someone talk to them. Your chicken-shit approach paints you as the Victim you are. PM sent to you directly so you can argue with me all you want and not bore the viewers here with your rants.

BTW - Really??? I was on Active duty in the Army when you were in 2nd grade so me being on here for 2yrs really makes my opinions less valuable then your 6-year tenure??? I sent you a PM so we can discuss our differences and you want to air it out here. Nut-up dude, I'm trying to teach you how to be a man.

The Ignore feature works great. Now I don't have to waste my time reading your cries for attention. PM me if you would like to continue.

LOL okay tough guy, easy to call people names from behind a computer screen. You obviously have shit for brains and are unable to comprehend anything previously posted in regards to this issue. Either way, I'm done with you. Go nip at some else's ankles.

At least you guys aren't using all caps and poor grammar.

Is 12MOA windage (48 clicks) out of the ordinary to adjust for .308WIN barrel from my .338LM barrel zero?

The elevation was 5MOA which I had to hold off due to the zero stop.

I have not swapped barrels and tried to repeat yet.

I hope Creature is happy and well taken care of. After talking to FedEx yesterday, I found that it was generally the shipper that makes a claim, it doesn't matter who the FedEx account is with. I called Nick and he talked to Ryan, who in turn obviously called Creature and let him know what was going on and that we would file the claim to get him up and running a bit faster.

To take it one step further, I took his new barrel out last night and fired it for accuracy out of a new A1 Chassis. 3 shots were .3 MOA, 5 shot group was .396 Center to center. Far exceeding the accuracy guarantee. With the 5 rounds I used to foul the barrel, 3 round group and 5 round group. Plus the 2 rounds for function firing...... Creature, your barrel has 15 rounds. All Ammo was factory DTM 308 w/ 175 SMK's

See I can do math too!

THANK YOU SIR!

Just got your text, and responded. I really appreciate all the help. You guys are AWESOME.

Also, if there's anything I can do with the Fedex thing please let me know(or have Ryan or Josh let me know). I've corresponded with Fedex the past couple days describing the package and stuff so hopefully that helps.

In hindsight, I regret posting my problems up here. I had just gotten back from a failed range trip on that second barrel and I was at the end of my rope. Either way, I shouldn't have put the shit on blast here. I was wrong, I apologize.

I look forward to shooting the hell out of it and kicking ass at matches. Thanks again Russ!

Heads up, I know I haven’t posted much here but, Thunder Beast is having a 10% off sale for August. It even applies to dealer in-stock cans. Might be worth it for some who’ve mentioned they were considering a TB can. I love mine for my Gen II 338LM.

For those with A1s, will a 1.5" diameter suppressor fit within the new A1 forearm?

Thanks

Short barrel 338 LM question:
Having never loaded for the 338 LM before, I have been researching loads. For those of you with experience with the 18" 338 LM, what idiosyncrasies, if any have you found when developing a load best suited with this barrel length? With H1000, Retumbo and RL-25 being impossible to find lately, I am going to try RL22. It is a little faster burning than the others. Any thoughts?

I would think you might get a more complete burn with the faster powder in the shorter barrel. I have cut down barrels in the past and had to move to a faster powder to get velocity up.

N560 works well with 250gr bullets and N570 with 300s, as an alternative.

3rd Generation shooting has (1) 8lb der or Retumbo left as of this post but Dogtown is right on the (2) VV's as a great alternative.

Hi everyone,
I'm about to take possession of a new DTA SRS covert in 338 Lapua. I don't plan on shooting more than 300 yards with it (the limit of the ranges around here) for a while. So I'm not the typical DTA enthusiast I guess. What drew me to the weapon is how compact and powerful it is, and the fact that it's a bullpup. I don't ever plan on buying another bolt action rifle. What I'm looking for is a fixed power scope for it, like an ACOG. I can't find anything online or on this forum about people using ACOGs or Trijicon optics on it. So my questions are: has anyone here used a fixed power Trijicon with a 338 Lapua barrel? Which models are recommended/not recommended? Anything similar I should also be looking at? Thanks in advance for reading and considering my post.

I don't see the point of getting a fixed power or an ACOG. There are so many better options out there in the same price range. If it was a budget issue I'd probably look for a used Leupold 3.5-10x40. It's in the same price range(or less) and you would have your 3.5x at the low end of the magnification but also 10x on the high.

I don't see the point of getting a .338LM if the furthest you're shooting is 300 yards. At 900 it's only just getting started, so why not a .308WIN or 6.5 instead? You can always get a .300WM or .338LM later when you have access to BLM land or longer ranges.

I concur Dogtown

Thank you for your responses,
I'm trying to round out my collection of rifles with higher-powered calibers, that's why I picked the 338 Lapua. It may be overkill for 300 yards, but I wanted it so I bought it.

As far as scopes, thanks for the eye relief information. So the 50bmg ACOG with eye relief at 2.7 inches would still be dangerous? If my budget was $2,000ish, and I wanted a fast reticle for closer shots, would you still recommend a Leupold given their greater eye relief? Maybe a Nightforce 2.5x10?

Again thanks for your consideration, I know that I'm an odd duck on this thread, but there might me more out there like me who love Coverts and won't shoot to its capabilities.

I think it is a valid argument. What about anti-material/vehicle or to defeat the higher level rifle body armor inside 300yds, what better then a super accurate .338LM?

But I do agree that I would opt for at least a 2.5-10x42 scope instead of a red dot.

2.5-10×42 NXS? COMPACT RIFLESCOPE | Nightforce Optics, Inc.

Or if the NXS is out of your price range, consider the Vortex viper PST 2.5-10x32 Vortex Optics - Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP EBR-1 MOA
Ive got one on my POF 308 and have been very impressed with it. Plus you can't beat the warranty that Vortex offers

Just picked up an A1 from another Hide member in the For Sale section here. Can't wait to get her out and put some rounds down range. Came with .260 and .308 barrels. Not too familiar with the .260 round, but just gives me a few more things to learn.

Is that the one Rex was selling?

Yep! I'm really looking forward to getting it. I've been looking at these for over a year and after shooting a Gen II in Feb, fell in love with it. The size and balance fit me perfectly. From the posts on the sale site I know that you know Rex and he seems like a great guy, so I was more than happy to step up and take it off his hands. I have an A1 on order, which should be here soon in 308 that I guess my son will be getting a nice Christmas surprise! Got into rifles with an MRAD last year and fell in love with the sport, but with no barrel conversions, it's like an Albatross! Plan on keeping it for the time being.

Army used to issue the XM107 with Mk4 scopes. Not very big ones IIRC either, it was the biggest complaint.

If you are just gonna use it 300 and under, a reflex sight would likely do it for one of those rounds, it's basically still line of sight at that range.

I'm waiting on the HTI and a NF Best to put on it.

BEAST will be a perfect topper for the HTI and hopefully will start popping up at dealers in the next 2 months. I have one on order through EuroOptic. Not sure where I rank on their Waiting List!

First time out with the DTA....... Can't wait for more!
Barrel one is a 7 wsm. Since brass is impossible to find, I had to fire form it from 300 wsm. I loaded it light with some random odds and ends 7 mm from my stockpile. I want out to my range and started popping off rounds. I quickly got a zero. I got bored with 100 yards and put it on a 6" steel plate at 550. Using a Horus, I walked it onto target and spent the next two hours clanging that plate with boring repetition. If the weapon is arable of that with mixed bullets, no dope and necked down 300 brass, I can't wait to build a load with precision and see what else it can do!
Barrel two: 18" 338 LM
Switched from the 7 wsm and fired five rounds at a 100. Windage was exactly the same as the 7wsm and elevation was two minutes high. To me, that makes using the same glass very doable..... Impressed so far!

Anyone know if the DTA SRS with the Soft Case/Shooting Mat will fit inside a Pelican 1720 without foam? Thanks!

I should be able to let you know in the next month or 2. I have an A1 ordered the the tan soft case/shooting mat. I'll try to remember to get back to you, if the question has not been answered by then.

Has anyone measure the chamber length on a 16" .308 Covert barrel? I'm thinking it is around 2.950 ish. Haven't broke down and got a gauge for measuring yet.

So I got my torque wrench from DTA and it didn't come with the 5mm adapter (wtf)? So what do I need to get at the hardware store to make this thing work?
