Brake or No Brake??

That is the question.... My 338 Lapua unloaded is looking like it will end up being between 25-28lbs.... I know its heavy for a rifle but shes being built thick and solid on the manners T4A stock... is that enough weight to knock down the harsh recoil of a 338 lapua or should I still throw a brake on it for good measure? I dont want a brake, but I dont want a broke shoulder either... its mainly going to be shot off bipod and sand bag, or all sand bags...

And it is hard to believe the rifle will weigh that much. I would have figured 15 to 18 lbs.

well shooting a 338 lapua without a brake may seem manageable but with a brake the recoil is a lot less and makes it more fun to shoot more

I've been told the Fat Bastard is VERY effective. Translation: VERY loud to other shooters on the range.

A 28 lb rifle is called "artillery." Will it have wheels?

Shooting a lot of 338 lapua, your shoulder says "get a brake." Your wallet says "Don't."

Don't let your stated weight fool you. If you want to shoot this rifle get a good brake.

Although you may be OK with the recoil due to the weight of your rifle you need the brake for muzzle control so you can follow through on your shots. Even with my 20" .308 there is a big difference on seeing hits with and without the brake. I just can't stay on target as well without the brake. Me..I'd get the Fat Bastard for that Fat Bastard. LOL Nice Rifle. Show some pics!

I'd go for a suppressor and have the best of both. Lower recoil and a lot less noise. Neighbors happy, you're happy and we're all happy....
My 338LM runs about 18.5 lb with the can and recoil is minimal. The little woman shoots the rifle without hesitation.
