Have been spending more time out in the field and the duration of each trip has gone from a few hours, to overnight, onto the 2nd day at times. The weapon(s) I have me are dependent on if I am going hunting/shooting during the day which can be either a bolt gun or AR (or both), practice during the day with a 22LR or hunting at night with my Mk12.

Through some trial and error I think I've found a very good balance between equipment and weight to where I don't feel like I can't walk the next day, yet have everything I have needed when I have been out for extended times and have learned some things the hard way (bring more water and batteries than you think you will need!). The only area I feel lately that I've been slacking in is a maintenance pouch of some sort and while I obviously know how to clean/maintain/take apart all of my weapons, I'm not sure what the best route as far as what to get that will be able to fit into a smaller GP pouch. My ghetto setup right now is a small bottle of MPRO-7, some cotton patch squares, a nylon brush, small screwdriver and a few allen wrenches that fit all of my turret/action/scope screws.

Is that all I really need? I haven't came across anything yet where I wished I had more but I keep wondering about it as I would hate to have to head home because I didn't have some 1$ something or other. Was also considering adding something like a small Otis kit for when I needed to clean the barrel due to getting something in the bore, dropping the rifle, ending up in a bad storm, etc but again, am not sure what to get or if I even need to.

So, build me a small, comprehensive maintenance pouch that I can stick on the side of the ruck I take with me and be able to handle a 7.62 bolt gun, a 5.56 AR, 9mm handgun and a 22LR. I'm curious what you guys would put in it and why.

I always pack my Borka torque tool/kit... has all the major drivers for most rifles actions, scope rings and anything else that could come loose. Light weight and torques everything down correctly without being too tight or too loose (can change accuracy).

    Rolls up nice...

And has quite a few things you may need for routine maintenance or field maintenance...

If you are talking weapon only kit I have what you have; 1oz of breakfree and superlube, southern bloomer rag that can be used as it or cut up for patches depending on caliber, Q-tips, blue brush, torque drives / allens and a 3/8 box wrench for rings. Hunting I carry boresnake but the Otis makes more sense if carrying more than one caliber. A mole hair brush with bellows mostly to blow off dirt particles. I toted a lens pen or cloth but with my optics now, not conducive to me cleaning them until I get home.

I have the Borka too with a 3/8 socket but it stays at home, once things are torqued and rechecked before out the door and back home during maintenance, to me its just not needed in the field as nothing for me requires that much detail, comes loose, tighten and press on.

A balloon over the muzzle with the action closed keeps the bore clean and dry but rain and salt I still like to wipe it out if when I have to break the seal.

Home Depot has a little kit similar to the one below. It has all of the Hex and torque drivers commonly used on guns, and optics. It's hard to explain, but you can determine ways to hold the handle that minimize the torque applied to the fastener. I think this kit, a multitool, and oil would do everything you needed. You could even drop some of the sockets and bits in the kit to save weight/space. Throw that in a pouch on your pack and you would be good to go.

The kit I bought was $10.00, and had four or five sleeves of bits.

I also carry a Borka kit. I'd add a word of caution regarding the inexpensive kits from the big box stores. I've found many of the bits to either be undersized or very soft. Neither is good for your rifle screws. The bits that come with the Borka are very nice and fit properly. There are other brands, like Wiha, that are also well made.

I carried an M-16 cleaning kit with a few additional items for years when on hunts or Range trips. That cleaning rod came in handy several times.

Now I have a .22 OTIS that takes up less space and it's lighter. Short of having to poke a frozen plug of mud from a bore...it should work fine.

I attend SHOT Show and there are always vendors giving out little samples of their lube, grease, solvent etc.
THOSE are perfect for these kits.

I put together a little kit , only has allens, drivers, 1 socket & wrench that fits my scope turrets, scope rings, bottom metal - just the tools needed for that rifle (do have the Gerber tool on my belt)

If i run the gas gun , i throw in the spare firing pin

    (will get picture added later)

For weight and space I use an otis kit that I tweaked. Also inside of the Otis pouch I have a Redtac pouch that holds a 1/2 wrench that is 1/8" steel cut on a water jet and the allen wrenches that I need, not a full blown kit, but it's what I need. It goes inside of the GSII and weighs very little.

A Borka kit, Otis and mil tec lube go with me any time I have a rifle.

I need to get a Borka kit regardless.

I've seen it mentioned a few times, but why do you take it out with you? I'm not talking about to the range, I'm more thinking as far as having it in a ruck and dragging it around on you the entire time. I understand that being able to loosen/tighten your rings/action screws/etc is fantastic, but for field level maintenance I would think this is overkill. If I have a malfunction or issue that requires a torque wrench in the field instead of an allen wrench, chances are my ass needs to go home anyways to check out what happened and fix the issue.

Something like an OTIS or the Dewey scalable kits with the stuck case removers are something I am looking at now. I pretty much want to be able to clear the bore if needed, remove an obstruction/case, and do a quick once over for dust/grit as I am in the middle of the desert.

Question on pull-through kits like the Otis/Dewey; lets say they offer a 22 CAL and 30 CAL pull through cord and specific 22 CAL and 30 CAL brushes for the cord. If you have both a 22LR and a 308, can you simply buy the 22 CAL cord and both 22 and 308 brushes?

small tool kit & kit with few extras (Gerber on my belt not shown)

small one has couple tools, brush, lens wipes, couple rubber bands, punch, couple allens, (if my gas gun was being used + firing pin)
Bag holds little kit + segmented rod, lube/cleaner, tape, patches, rag, cleaning brush

All road in bottom of my pack at most events

...So, build me a small, comprehensive maintenance pouch ....
    German,
about the POUCH only, NUMRICH's Catalog has, among their huge inventory, a full section about used and/or never issued ex military maintainance pouches, ready to be filled w. the needed goods, of all sizes, dimensions and materials from a whole bunch of countries (mainly U.S. Army,of course)_
Some years ago I've buyed from them not less than five different models, at really low prices_(as exemple, now on my bike the road-repair basic tools are inside a well stout, 90mm. M67 Rifle "roll pouch",modified following my needs...)_
    Hope can help_
