I just put together a new rifle and now I am looking at glass. I am about 99% set on a Razor HD with the EBR-2 mrad reticle. Basically I don't want to sell myself short and would like any input on any scopes I should check out before I pull the trigger. My requirements are NEW. I am just not looking for a used scope right now. Budget is $2k...not a penny more. FFP in the 5-20 range magnification give or take with illumination as I will use this scope during some evening hunts. Glass comparable and on par with the razor hd. Very rugged as well.

Also while I am asking away are there any rings in 35mm that use 6 screw caps? I was going to grab some badgers but from what I can find I am limited to either 34mm or 30mm with the 6 screw caps. I am wanting similar quality to badger or seekins as well. I would prefer steel but if alloy is all I can find in 35mm I can go that route. Also the scope will be used with a 700 action in an AICS chassis. What ring height will I be needing. I read the AICS cheek pieces sit fairly high and using the lowest rings possible can make for an uncomfortable cheek weld. I can make a new thread regarding the rings if needed. Thanks.

I just purchased the razor 5-20 with this reticle from RangerWalker71 and he through in a set of votex rings but they are 4 screws. Love the scp

Razor with IOR Valdada .25 steel rings sits atop my .260. I LOVE IT.

In that price the Razor is going to be one of the best choices if you stick to FFP. I was basically looking for the same thing recently and compromised on a SFP scope and got a nightforce 5.5x22x56 with a MLR reticle. Since anytime I am ranging I am at max power anyway so the SFP is not killing me yet. IOR is another choice of FFP but I think the razor is a better product with better warranty support etc. Check out Libertyoptics if you dont already have a dealer. Scott will give you a great price

Another +1 on Liberty, they're running some nice deals for Hide members also. I don't think you can go wrong with the Razor, but in the 2k range there's also the Bushnell XRS series with a little more mag, still FFP, and Liberty has deals on them at the moment which I think would save you enough for the rings.

Sport Optics also give Hide members a VERY nice discount.

Agreed on Chris and Sport Optics, didn't mean any "slight" to them, only mentioned Liberty because I'd gotten a quote from them this week and knew for sure they had sales going.
I wish Sport Optics dealt with Bushnell; I'd have gotten a quote from them as well.

I think in that price range, the 5-20 Razor HD is going to be the best scope overall. Bushnell has stepped up their game considerably of late, but they are going to have a lot of work to do to convince me they've changed their attitude regarding customer service and care after the sale. Vortex sets a very high bar in that regard and let's just say my personal experience with Bushnell on two different occasions revealed a less than adequate response.

And let me just add this preemptively... I realize some of you have had great experiences with Bushnell. Awesome. Very glad for you... but it doesn't change my experience and only Bushnell can do that... and last we spoke they seemed kinda unconcerned about the whole thing. Buyer beware.... YMMV.

Best of luck OP.

Razor is a great scope. I have one and love it. Check out the Steiner 4-16X50. If you call around you may well get it for 2K. I have the 3-12x56 Steiner Tactical. You might like the optics a little better on the Steiner. Both have great zero stops. Both are FFP. Razor has more eye relief 3.9" vs. 3.5" I like the steiner Illumination system better. G2 mildot it pretty thick but no more than the EBR-2B. Also you might take a look at a web site called "optics thoughts" Specifically an article entitled "High End Tactical Part III: New Kids on the Block" The article is also posted on the Hide but I am not very good at creating links. It is a very comprehensive analysis of several scopes in your price range as well as a few that are more expensive. As for rings I use TPS steel super low rings on a 338 RUM. They only have four cap screws. Absolutely no issues. Hope this help. Have fun with the new rig.

I just got a chance to look through and play with a Razor for a bit and coming from a S&B PMII user I'd like to put my +1 vote on the Razor. As long as its the EBR-2B reticle and 10 mil turrets. ;)

I see no reason to go with 6 screw rings honestly. I recently swapped out from a set of badger 4ring in the rear and 6 screw up front USMC rings with a set of seekins 4 screw rings and I'm happy with the decision. The weight savings was nice and I'm also just a big fan of how they look and that they are all one tool to tighten. You could also get Vortex rings then you'll have matching logos and the knowledge that Vortex's rings are made by Seekins Precision.

The rings I'm using on my AICS are the Seekins X-High 1.26" rings. I had the Badger USMC rings at 1" but found those to be just a touch too low in some situations. I used to be really big on keeping things as low as possible and blah blah blah but once I had a platform with an adjustable comb height I like to be up in the range where I can use the adjustment and get perfectly in line with the scope. I use the Victor Company Accustack spacers to get my comb to the same place every time and to aid in quick cleaning on my AICS1.5. I prefer the 1.5 with the accustacks as its just as quick to clean and saves on weight.

Just get the 35mm precision rings from Vortex that are made by seekins. Get medium height rings. The Seekins are the best. You want your optic sitting as close to bore height at possible.

This is all if your getting the Razor. In which case go for the 10mil turrets, less easy to get lost.

Medium height rings will be a bit too low with the AICS stock. Your scope will clear with the 50mm obj but you won't be able to comfortably get into the exit pupil as it will be too low even when you have your comb height adjustment all the way down. 1" height got me where I was close and I could have probably lived with 1" but I'm happier with slightly over 1 inch. I didn't need all of the 1.26" rings that I ended up going with but that was my next option from Seekins. Its a decision I don't regret in the least. I have maximum flexibility and its just a number that I enter into my ballistics calculator and it only comes into play when shooting up and down hills.

I was saying medium as this is the setup my buddy has and seems to work fine. He had 34mm medium height rings on his AICS. But then again my friend does not have a Razor?????

If you want to be sure then go for a uni mount as they are usually higher, I have on my AICS AX the AI uni mount and it's great, very solid.

I'll be honest I'm not basing my call on the 1" being the bare minimum of heigh. For me it was the bare minimum for both eye box height and obj height as I had a PMII 5-25x56 on there. But still yet there are quite a few who felt that 1" is too low for an AICS platform. Rings are a tough call and often you can get a set and find you want something a little bit different. Don't fight that want. Give things a try but if you still feel you want things a little different go out and find what you need to fit you. Scope/comb/eye relief fit is a big deal when it comes to this game.
