I've gone through about 70 of 200 and none have weighed 208. The majority has been 207.7 with a couple at 207.5. I'm sorting on a Gem Pro 250. I sort to the tenth. I think it is too anal to sort to the 100th. Anyone else run into this with these bullets?

I recently got 2 boxes of 100. Just cause I'm a swell guy, I weighted about 10 of them. They all weighed in pretty consistent at 207.7 gr. I don't personally sort bullets by weight, so I won't have any more data for now. FWIW, I weighted a few of my 200 gr SMK's. They were all exactly 200 gr.

Edit: My lot is the same as yours, 30732.

I was expecting to see the majority at 208. I know some folks that will throw them in a junk bin if they don't weight what they are stated to weigh. I'm not that bad, but damn. 70 and none weigh what they are stated.

To some it does. Out of 100 none met their weight. 207.7 was the closest. I had some that were as low as 207.5. This is the first time that I have ever ran into a box of bullets that none met advertised weight. I have sorted thousands upon thousands of bullets.

Does it really matter as long as they're consistent?

+1 Been using 208gr A-Max's for awhile now in my 300WM and they've always been good for 1/4 to 1/2 moa accuracy across a bunch of lot numbers. When something works that well, I don't waste time measuring and weighing, i just load 'em up and shoot.

I guess I just don't get why it matters. I'll have to look into the ballistic consequences of a 0.2 gr shift in weight later on.

To each their own. I like sorting. Some do and some don't. I just try to make rounds that are as close as possible to identical round from round.

Stop wasting your time and just shoot them. You are worrying about something that isn't worrying about. I have shot alot of them in my 300WM and never weighed one. Whether they are 207.5 or 208 they shoot great out to around 1200 yards.

You may be more suited to something that comes out of a green or yellow box.

The point of my thread is none met weight. That is weird. I load green and yellow all the time. I've also loaded these A-Max quite a bit. This is the first time ever that I had a box of any brand that none met advertised weight. I think that is weird and unusual. Was just trying to see if anyone else ran into that with these. Ever wonder why some people request certain lot numbers? Maybe this could be one of those lots that, well, just ain't as good as previous.

Well how do they shoot?

Yeah!! I bought some 38specials one time and you know what? Most of 'em measured .357! LOL. don't flame me. I'm just messin with ya.

So, all the bullets were between 207.5 and 207.7? That is fantastic.

Question, do you have a certified check weight to properly calibrate your scale? Without a lab certified check weight, you have no idea whether the numbers your scale is spitting out are close to reality. No disrespect intended, but a gem pro is not a lab-grade scale and I'll bet it is off. But, if this little discrepancy is making you lose confidence in your bullet's ability to hit the target, I'll be happy to take them off your hands for a fair price.....would love to get my hands on some 208 A-Maxes....errr 207.7 :)

SKU # 30832 or lot # 2131022 (under the box) ? Other then that I weighed out my box and they were 208 - 208.2. Hmm.. I might have to weigh them out again. If you guys are getting most under 207.9 or less

Would you rather they all weigh within .1gr and they cost $10 a box more? I have shot thousands of the 155 lapua bullets. I weighed a few. They usually came in at about 154.7. My time is better spent weight sorting he brass. More gain for that pain. YMMV-Rob

stop wasting your time weighing bullets, nobody can shoot good enough to tell the difference between a 207.7 and a 207.5.
cheers.

There were a total of 5 different weights. Most were 207.5 - 207.7. There were about 10 or 12 that had three different weights. I have check weights, but not certified. I may be wrong, but I do not believe the scale is off. Powder Valley had some 208s yesterday if you want some.

Yes, I would pay $10 more if they were all .1gr or less.

i do believe I gave the SKU number rather than the lot. I'll update it after work. Sorry.

Wow. Nobody, but me, thinks an entire box of bullets that missed their advertised weight is unusual?? I bet the benchrest crowd would think it is unusual.

The benchrest crowd do not give a hoot about weight, they keep slinging those 6 mm bullets in smaller and smaller groups, and let me tell you the ones I know, they have never sorted bullets the way you do.

Cases weighted and sorted, yes, bullets ogives measured, some of them might, bullets weighed, absolutely no. /Chris

Well someone other than me thinks it has benefit. It is a damn sticky at the top of this board. I don't give a shit if anyone else here sorts or not. My point was the closest, out of 100 bullets, to advertised weight was 3/10ths of a grain under. I have never seen this before from any maker.

Shoot them and then come back and tell us how they do. That is all that matters. Right now you are just complaining about a non issue. Call Hornady if you want. Tell them you were shorted .3-.5grn of bullet weight.

There are plenty of over anal reloading procedures. Just because something is at the top of the page doesn't make it carved in stone. Just something else someone does. Me i don't weigh cases, or bullets or measure bullets. I weigh powder charges and that's it. Seems to have done well for me over the years in many competitions.

I know it doesn't make it carved in stone. Was just saying that there are other people that do it. I'm going to shoot them. It is just that I have never seen not a single bullet make weight before. All I was trying to say. I tried to close this thread, but only Option it gave me was to delete.
