Does anyone have suggestions for a good pair of pants for use in hot humid climates? I'm about to start work rotating out of Thailand, and I'm looking for a pair of pants that would be great for that climate. Something that I can wear around all day and be comfortable in, in that humidity and heat. Bonus points if they will work on the range in Houston for shooting.

*Edit - I'm also looking for some shirts that are up to the task of the Thailand/Houston heat and humidity. I'm a fan of arcteryx gear, is there any other brands that I should be looking at?

Cheers,

kthomas

Nothing new, but I've never found something better than ol'style mil.rip-stop cotton fabric_
Never done "panajungle", but Venice here, in summertime, can teach to anyone something about hot-humid etc.
(Calcutta maybe coud be worse...maybe)
Side bagged, sand color, shorts or full legged, yes: they work at the range, of course_

I learned from a thread a while back that wool is good in hot weather... Wool pants and wool shirt? :)

Bullseye,I must admit that I've seen, three days ago, a Japanese tourist under his hooded (hood up) wind jacket (hot sun,no wind,120°F, 90% humid., 02.ooPM), therefore you're invited here, under the same weather conditions, with your heaviest wool garments: if you'll survive trekkin'around in this stone-only Disneyworld here, I'll offer the drinks...

Thanks for all the responses!

I went to REI last night, and I purchased an arcteryx perimeter pants, khul renegade shorts, a khul shirt and some merino wool socks. Ordered some Lowa Zephyr GTX's this morning as well.

I have switched over to 5.11 tactlite pro pants. They dry fast and are super comfortable. Summers here are humid and the morning dew will soak you. Also, under armor type underwear are a must. I have found that the starter brand at walmart are just as good, fit better and are only $7 a pair.

Go into the Cabela's catalog, and find the "light nylon" pants, with the Zippers, that make them into shorts. I "did a stint, in the Amazon". 1 day, and the jeans, went back to the suitcase, and never got out. The Nylon pant's feel a bit aukward, cause it feels like you're naked. but they're 20 degrees cooler than jeans or Kahkis, they dry, in minutes, and look like Kahki's. Lots of pockets.

Shorts????
these four interrogations remind me that, since the times of the French occupation on S.E.Asia, seemly the khaki shorts have earned the significance of THE garment of the occupants, even well after their departure_
Really don't know how long this idea, if the info is true, has lasted...

My pants stayed off in Thailand. Nothing more refreshing than a soapy soapy after a Cobra Gold field evolution.

Shorts are always in good taste. You can find them at Walmart.
