I installed a set of ameriglo spartan tactical sights on my glock 19, and the first thing I noticed was how wide the rear notch was. I get it....the wider it is, the faster to get on target. But, it's really wide, meaning you could stack two front sight posts side by side in the width when aiming. I have to center the sight in the gap to hit a 10" plate @25yds. I'm getting used to them....but I'm wondering if some of y'all prefer this setup?
If so, let me know how it's helped you.

Oh, this is coming from a former 1911 bullseye shooter.
    Thanks gentlemen,
    Phillip

Great for speed but NOT for accuracy.

You have combat sights, not precision sights. Not many handgun gunfights at 25 yds. These and similar sights were designed for typical combat distances. I hear the same complaint about the 10-8 and Heinie wide notch - it's about quick acquisition, not precision shooting. BTW, I'm also a former Bullseye guy, and understand your POV.

Don't know if it's an option, but maybe run a tritium front post and a tighter rear notch? Like taking the front post for the Ameriglo and putting a std adj. match rear sight on a 1911. I have something similar to this on my 1911 and it tries to do both. You can find the front sight quite fast, can tell when it's in the notch, and still have match-tight black irons for accurate shooting.

A peep site is best for long range. A wide rear sight and a skinny front sight leaves more room for error. The smaller the dots the better you can see and differences in how they are lined up. Personally on my next defensive pistol i want the figure 8 sights.

Us older guys that have trouble focusing like the wide rear and the narrow front sights. No, they are no less accurate. Have them on all my competition guns. More light, faster and a big help for aging eyes.

How does the wide rear sight make you less accurate? What sights are best for optimal accuracy at distance?

^ and Bm22 & kansas made good points on their posts ^

Doesn't make it "less accurate", though you do lose a precision sight picture. An anology is using the large vs small peep on AR iron sights at distance. The sights on my "ball" gun are a non-recessed Bomar rear and a tall wide front, but keep in mind, this gun was setup for 50 & 25 precision shooting. Regarding "aging eyes" reminds me of a class I attended where Ken Hackathorn joked about the "old man" AmeriGlo sights he had on his gun.
