I know I've read somewhere, that the federal Match 168 gr duplication load used 43.5 gr h4895. Does anyone recall that info, or do you know this load?

An "equal" load to the FGMM is on here somewhere....I've seen it. Can't remember what the recipe was....but you can't duplicate the Federal powder recipe to a tee because they use a combination of powders and won't reveal what they are.

The 168s, loaded to about 2,600 fps, using H4895, Varget, RL-15, N140 IMR4895 or any of a host of others. MBusby's right; Federal doesn't publish the load, and most manufacturers consider such info as proprietary. Can't really list it anyway because there's several different powders that are used to load this ammo. Don't sweat it. Using any of the powders I mentioned, you'd have a harder time working up an inaccurate load, than you will an accurate one.

I used the 43.5 gr H4895 @ Blackwater to shoot a sub 1", 3-shot group @ 600 yds. It shot into low "1"s and high "0"s @ 100 yds. I know it was a good load, just wasn't sure about the Federal load. Thanks for the input.

I've shot probably thousands of rounds loaded 168 SMK + CCI primer + 42.5 of IMR-4895. And believe it or not, you can replace it with the 175 SMK with the same charge.

NTHRUT, the powder used in the Federal Match 168 is IMR 4064. Sometime in 2010 the powder charge was raised. Im not 100 % sure that they use a 210M primer. The newer rounds have a blue primer sealant around them. Depending on your barrel length, ie 20''-26'' start with 41.5-43.5. rxs0 has some good info too.

Col. Sanders...

Before Colonel Harlan Sanders (an old family friend) crossed the river of life, he told me what that secret was. But I'm NOT telling...

Awesome....only on the Hide site can you come a post away from one of the most guarded recipies on the planet!!
+1 to you Victor N

Not near as guarded as coke, only two people know the recipe at one time, and are not allowed to travel together in case they die together.

Or so the legend goes....
