I've had this Atlas for a while now, and I'm ready to take it out next weekend. Are these things suppose to be super stiff to the point where the tension adjustment doesn't seem to make a difference? I've read that it takes some usage to get it to loosen up. Anyone else get this with theirs?

Yup, it will loosen up. It feels pretty stiff, but with it on the rifle it will move pretty easily. Just gotta break it in.

Itll get better with time. Got a couple hundred rounds on mine and its starting to limber up.
I recently picked one up too...my experience was only a few shots and it was loose...I almost feel like the opposite is true and can't get it tghtened enough to keep it from canting or rotating when I load it (probably my lack of experience with it)....I still love it, it is a great bipod

It's pretty cool that your 2 year old daughter can not only read, but is on snipers hide enough to allow threads like this to bother her.

Adjust the tension by turning the knob.
