This is the best 300 yard group I've ever shot with any rifle. I realize it's nothing special, but it's a nice accomplishment for me, considering only about 4 months ago I couldn't shoot a 5 shot 6 inch group to qualify for the 400 - 600 yard range at American Shooting Center. I could do it, but not on the allotted target they gave that could only have shots on it in within the 6 in circle. I'll try to take some pics of the rifle later.

Rem 700 action .308, Kreiger 26" barrel, MTU contour, Jewell trigger 1#, FGMM 175gr SMK

I shoot at Bayou Rifles now, but used to shoot at ASC. I'm a lot less nervous out at Bayou than I was on the 100 yard line at ASC.

Radar360, I would say just practice is what has helped me get better. I go the the range probably 3 out of 4 Saturdays per month. I also watched Lowlight's First Day DVD as well as a video he posted in a thread of mine, in which I had asked about loading bipods and driving a gas gun. I started paying close attention to my set up, making sure I was in my Natural Shooing Position with a Natural Point of Aim, and made sure to hold the trigger down after every shot until I can see the POI which helps you focus on recoil management. And then when I am shooting groups I make sure I keep the same cheek weld over the entire group. Oh, and I'm more aware of scope parallax and I'm diligent about getting rid of it. My next step is to start shooting prone all the time. I've just started doing it with my gas guns. The other next step is to finally load my own rounds. I have all the equipment, all the components, and even had a guy show me how to do parts of it. I'll be loading up some 175 gr SMK's for the .308 this week.

Damn nice shooting, Bluto! When you measure you can just measure c-t-c with the furthest holes, still looks like under an inch, awesome!

That is an excellent group. Did you say that you shot it off a bipod or from bags? Great job!

I shot these using a front and rear bag (same ones in the picture above). I have an Atlas bipod, but it's been living on my AR-15, and even though it's a QD mount, it still fits the 1913 picatinny rail on the AR-15 much better than the rail that came from Atlas for the bolt gun stock. I haven't wanted to mess with having to adjust it when at the range. I need to get another one for my bolt guns to share, and use it to start shooting from prone. Then I'll see my groups continue to shrink.

Here's a pic of the entire target. I shot 4 groups of 5 shots. All 4 groups were sub MOA and they averaged 2.282" or .786 MOA

That rifle seems to be very consistent and that's what we all want. The groups look great. Keep working it...Krieger makes good barrels. You can always massage powder charges based on weather and shrink them even more!

Great groups man! That is son fine shooting and I love that you are working on your fundamental of shooting and working that .308. The farther out you go and dealing with wind in a .308 shows your skill as a marksmen. Keep up the hard work, not sure if I missed it but if you reload start playing with the charge weights and watch them shrink a little more.
Best Regards,
Oscar

That's some good shooting bluto. Just goes to show, practice pays off, keep it up.

Fantastic group! And yeah, learn how to measure them... Its smaller than you think!:)
Unless you measured center of farthest holes, and just set the calipers on the group....

From one bluto to another, that's nice shooting and a very nice group. It's better than my best at 300 yards. By the way, your actual
MOA is 0.2502. Divide by 3.141 to get the correct number. Now is the time to go out and shoot six groups and post on the 300 yard bolt
gun challenge. Even though Elfster isn't updating, I've been posting results just for fun and to add to the data base. The challenge has
helped me improve significantly.

Thanks man! I know what you're saying about the "real" MOA being divided by 3.141, but I didn't see it until after I had this posted. I was hoping I had heard wrong though!

Thanks everyone else. I'm pretty pumped up about it. I was shocked when I saw the target. I was checking the groups in my scope, and I didn't realize how small the first one was until I went and picked up the target. I'm a little amazed at the whole target. That's a better average than the 100 yard challenge with my AR-15. Of course, it's only 4 groups, and it only takes that one half-ass one to screw it all up. The 100 yard challenge with my AR has really helped quite a bit. After shooting the gas gun so much, the old bolt gun was a walk in park! Hopefully I can get out on Monday and give it another whirl. I'm hoping to get some 175 SMK's loaded up and see what happens.

Btw, I had the calipers zerod at .308 and then measured and took pics.

bro! that's awesome and one hell of a group! all of that practice with the gas gun is making a huge difference for damn sure. Nice work!

Very nice shooting! Now, download On Target software from On Target Precision Calculator. It makes measuring a whole lot easier, plus you can make the cool graphical representations you see on the web! The old version is freeware, the current version is $11. Here's your group:

That's pretty cool. Someone else suggested that too in another thread. I'm going to do that. That's what I love about this sport. There is so much more to it than just the shooting itself. So many things to learn and try to master, and then you get to see It all come together when you get behind the rifle. It make it so much more fun to go out and shoot. And Instead of just having fun on saturday mornings at the range, I can enjoy thereby all through the week after the kids go to bed.

This is my thoughts exactly.

Nice shooting by the way! At 300 yards there are so many factors it's tough to hold 1 moa even with a good set up, let alone .27 moa.

I wish we had more time to load that night and we weren't so rushed. Women.. ha! I'm sure that gun will be a consistent 1/2 moa or better at 300 once you have a load figured out for it.

I agree. She's gonna be a tack driver. Mind you, these groups were not shot with the hand loads we did. These are FGMM 175gr SMK's. We loaded 168's. Once I load some 175's, it's gonna be on!

If you use OnTarget, make sure your pictures are straight on to the target, i.e., the camera sensor plane parallel to the target plane, to eliminate any measurement error due to perspective distortion.
