All time high for 22LR?

I just returned from the Crossroads gun show in Reno where a dealer was selling CCI MiniMag 22LR for $40 for one hundred rounds (one box). I didn't see anyone buy a box, I sure didn't.

I think cheaper than dirt has had them higher than that but either way their isn't a chance in hell I would pay that.

The crisis is over, Elex Tenex is back on the shelf for the same price as last year.

/and no, I'm not telling you where that is.....

I actually love these stories; I'm able to show them to my wife and justify buying in bulk when there isn't a frenzy.

Trust me, unless something bad happens 22lr ammo is coming down fast before Christmas. Still lots of the bulk stuff that can be bought at WalMart on Gunbroker for ridiculous prices but a funny thing is happening...it is no longer selling. Federal Auto match for $60 a box is sitting idle with barely a sniff. The guys who have been staking out WalMart for the delivery truck will soon be stuck with their overpriced ammo. I am not ranting or torqued about the situation as I have always kept plenty of plinking ammo on hand. What has me a bit torqued is all the match ammo that sold when it became cheaper than bulk when we were in full panic. If you get antsy about 22lr in the next few months just listen to this and calm down:

Luckily I'm not hurting for rimfire ammo. However, I'm short of R-P 260Rem brass and haven't seen any except at the same price I can buy Lapua brass for.

Back in May I was at the Tulsa, OK show and saw a brick of Federal match with a $200. tag on it. He was also selling 50 count boxes for $20.

I just bought a brick of 500 cci standard velocity for $50 last night. That's still more than I'd like to pay, but it's a lot better than elsewhere around me

I see 22 ammo coming down. Cabalas had 100 mini mags for a shade over $8, then I got some Fed Bulk pack (325) for $18 from Natchez.

I was able to ride this out, looks like I made it.

Don't buy it till it comes back down where it should be. This is all market conditioning. Raise the price way up, then bring it down a little and everyone thinks "man I got a deal from what I would have paid last week". But in all reality, you're still paying more than it's worth, and justifying the high prices. If we pay the prices, they won't come back down...they have no reason.

picked 10 50rnd boxes (Federal American Eagle) from bass pro in Katy tx for 2.98 a box, no limit but I got the last of what they had. The guys said take it all, they got more coming......

I can hear it now:
" Local authorities raided a residence in Western NC today and found a cache of 22lr ammo. Officials said, that the approximately 3500 rounds of ammunition, have an estimated street value of 6.3 million dollars."
